Hi,

I heart here and there (and in many groups) that apparently now (since 2021) they won’t return files, if they need something, they will ask you for.

However, I couldn’t find any source supporting this claim, especially that some people are still facing this problem

Do you have any idea about this ?
Thanks.

Applications are still being returned if they are incomplete.

The bit about not returning files is very specific to documents that are taking longer to obtain due to COVID. For example, under Express Entry, if a police certificate is taking longer to obtain, the applicant can submit the rest of the application with a letter stating the police certificate is taking longer and the application won't be rejected.

However if an application is submitted that is incomplete (e.g. insufficient fees, missing signature, wrong or missing forms), it's still going to be returned. We saw applications returned on this forum as recently as last week.

Here's the specific language:

If you’re missing documents due to COVID-19 (such as police certificates, biometrics, passports and medical exams)
  • we won’t close or refuse any applications in progress
  • we’ll automatically give you an extra 90 daysto send us the documents from the deadline in the request letter
    • this applies even if the letter says you only have 30 or 90 days
  • we’ll keep extending the deadline for another 90 days until you can get the documents
  • you don’t have to contact us to get this extension
  • once you’re able to, send us the missing documents as soon as possible to avoid further delays
