Hi guys,

Just want to get my mind at ease so I'd like to ask for your input about my case.

This is a bit personal, but I was a closeted gay male in 2017. I came out to brother and the expectation did not go well. I was extremely lonely and had no support from anyone with regarding this matter. It got to the point that I was done trying to pretend I'm straight and had a thought about self-harming in one night (never attempted though). The next day I came out to my parents and friends and surprisingly they were all ok with my sexuality. Everything was normal after a few days, and I have never had any suicidal ideation since.

This wouldn't be a problem but I did disclose this information to a Panel Physician when I was applying to a visitor visa in Australia. She then wrote a letter to the Medical Officer that "I had a suicidal ideation in the past, with some alcohol abuse, but I seem fine now". That visa application was then withdrawn by me, before any further processing is finalised, because I no longer needed it.

The facts about me are, besides the suicidal ideation due to my personal experience, I have never had any mental health problems, never been hospitalised, never needed a psychology doctor nor relying on any medications to function; I have been completely fine and personally achieved some good results with education, jobs, certificates and savings.

Question here, should I be worried about this bit when it came to medical history questionnaire for Canada PR? I mean, how would I answer to the question: "have I ever had any depression/ mental health problems?" during the medical exam, given the fact that I have never been diagnosed with anything and never had to rely on meds to live. Would the Panel Physician or the Regional Medical Officer dig up my information of my withdrawn visa application from Australia?

Personally I don't think it would be a big deal as I know myself that I am healthy, and it will be ok even if they asked me for a psychiatrist exam. But I'm just worried if I answered incorrectly during the medical questionnaire I might be marked as misrepresentation...

Any input from you guys would be really appreciated!

Many thanks for your time!

Hi. I think when you have the medical with the physician just explain it as you did above and say you have never been diagnosed but one night you had these thoughts. In my personal opinion it shouldn't be an issue, lots of people go through different things and at some point have a night like you did and this should not be an issue at all. All the best I'm sure everything will be fine.

Is it for student visa or permanent residence ? A visitors imo doesn't need a medical exam.

Hi coolgal,

Thank you for your DM. I read it well, and I agree with you.

The visitor visa application was for Australia, not Canada last year. They required a medical exam in which I disclosed the information about my past experience. That application to Australia was withdrawn by me later on.

I'm now planning to apply for Canada PR visa and afraid that due to the relationship between the two countries, Australia might share my information on that withdrawn visitor visa to my up-coming medical exam...

Nevertheless, I think I'm just complicating things now by overthinking. Need to read a book or something to calm myself down lol.

Many thanks for your input once again,

Daniel
