since you are a citizen, you can stay anywhere while the application is being processed

Hello

My Canadian citizen husband wants to sponsor me. We have been living together for about 2.5 years and married for 2. My question is should I provide an explanation as to why we waited so long to apply for sponsorship? Is it any cause for suspicion or anything?

Are you living in Canada or abroad? If in Canada, what's your status?

Offhand I can't think of any reason why iRCC would think it's suspicious, unless there's something obvious. (Eg if you've been living in Canada out of status for those two years, it might seem odd that you didn't want to get PR status.)

I've been in Canada for almost 4 years. I was on study permit till April 2020. Married in March 2019. My parents at the time wanted me to complete my studies first coz they thought I'll get distracted with the PR stuff. Then pandemic hit and we started the research and everything but things were very slow. I've maintained my status so far.

I don't see any obvious need to explain. "Didn't get around to it" works, esp since it seems to be the truth. (Only real question is wouldn't a work permit haven't been useful, but f you didn't need the money, you didn't need the money.)

I wasn't eligible because I had a part time semester. The college advisor neglected to tell me it'll affect my pgwp when I went to talk to her if I could be part time for one sem. Should've done my research but it doesn't matter now.

Well, don't think it really needs an explanation, but up to you. Probably more important to get your application in while you're still in status, ie as soon as feasible. (And carefully, triple-check everything - leaving stuff out and getting it returned is painful)
