Experts, need a suggestion on this.
waiting for my second fingerprint request as the first ones expired like a month ago.
Is it true that i can get my fingerprints done by RCMP in advance and before IRCC requests and just send the letter when IRCC requests it again?
hearing about all these delays makes me want to have the docs ready.
Thanks

Why would they ask for fingerprint? Is that common? Just asking because I read somewhere that if you get a request like that it mean that the application will be considered non routine. Is that true?

You can go to RCMP or affiliated agency to get the fingerprint and ask them to send the report to your address.Once you received the request you can send it to IRCC. I believe background check is valid for a year only

Yes its consider non routine it may delay your application a bit but FP request is very common now this year and most of the Feb and March 2020 applicants getting the FP request

Do you know if that is more likely based on paper or online application?

@Interstellaraliens one of the requirements to get the fingerprint done, is to carry the letter from IRCC and RCMP after processing, send the fingerprint directly to the requesting IRCC office. Not sure if you do it preemptively, will you be jumping ahead and causing more confusion in the application process. Though someone who has done it this way and has proceeded to the step successfully they would be better to comment.

It's better to wait. And also which office will you send the fingerprint to. The office requesting it is not the actual office that is doing all the processing. Each of these requests and steps are from different office. Mine was from the Vancouver office, Test from the Hamilton office and all other communication from some other offices. Since it's all over the place, and with much of it going online, the paper trail sent to the wrong office , will only delay the process ....even further

It's very much case by case. It is not clear why someone gets a request. My wife got it twice, while I never had to do it.

Is there any reason, based on your individual applications, for this? Something that differentiates your wife's application from yours maybe.

My husband's residency calculator runs to 5 pages. Wonder if extensive travel could be a trigger, for example.

Not sure. The travel history is not that much and it matches what I have except for one trip. Been to the US umpteen number of times. The only problem with US land crossing, is that her entires don't show up correctly in i94 history. Most times entries are recorded and not exits. I had to match all exits with mine, when we submitted the application. Well I wouldn't worry about it much, it's just a normal process or possibly a random ask, based some odd criteria. It sure does delay the process no doubt, especially during the current times...

Considering my husband's extensive travel and the multiple indecipherable stamps on his passports, he got his CBSA record and double checked the travel data. A good idea as there were many occasions on which his return time on the ticket was 11.30 pm but the CBSA record indicated 12.01 am on the next day. He would have been off by 10 days or so if he hadn’t double checked. As it is, he’s applied with 200 days as a buffer.
