Are new biometrics necessary right now? I remember reading news saying that due to Covid past biometrics could be used by IRCC. Would that mean IRCC wouldn't spend time on getting/processing new biometrics? Thanks.

If you gave your biometrics for a Canadian visa application (even for temporary visas) in the past 10 years from the date of your PR application, you won’t be asked to give it again for PR.

Hi guys.. I need your help with a vey important decision. Please help me.!
Me and my husband are trying for the PR and are in the express entry pool since last 1 year with a score of 466. If I apply for PR alone without my spouse accompanying my score is 471. I wanted to go together with my husband but he is insisting that I go alone and can then call him by spousal program which will take another 1-1.5 years after I settle down in Canada.
Do you think its a good idea for me to go alone and try to setup everything there.
Also, I am a financial Analyst, can I expect to find a job within a month or 2 max ?

Buddy, I've crossed the 6 month mark and my application is not moving. COVID has messed standard timelines up. We all have to just be patient.

Hi dear @ZAtoCD how are ya? while the government declared they will increase immigrants number in 2021-2023, and all draws are like of 5000 ITAs
So, don't they have to speed up processing? and also what's the timeline these days like applicants whose AOR was from mid-2020, is anyone getting COPR?

It's only the 10th of January, people are just coming back to work, and Canada is still reeling from the worst wave of the pandemic yet. Give it some time; they will start processing applications. They wouldn't have announced a 400K target in October when they were fully aware of the extent of the pandemic, if they were planning to move at this pace throughout 2021. I think processing will gradually speed up and travel restrictions will gradually get lifted - we just need to be patient.

I sure do hope so, my plan (if all goes well) is to arrive there in the summer months. Hopefully by that time, the travel restrictions are already lifted at least for potential PR candidates.

IRCC is prioritizing family class sponsorships at the moment. Also, they’re still trying to address the lack of equipment for Canada-based IRCC staff to take home. This is based on the last two meetings of the parliament committee on immigration in December. Timelines are guesswork — it will depend on the complexity of your application, your location, the assigned officer’s workload, if your vac is working, the travel restrictions. Your app maybe approved already but no PPR/COPR as there’s no point of issuing COPRs if you can’t travel due to restrictions. The document will just expire and will cause additional workload to IRCC officers to re-issue.

Correct - I knew that all along. It's just counting down 6 months from AoR, not the time left to process your application. It used to have some meaning (although limited), but now it doesn't really mean anything. Mine updated after 6 months and said, "Your application is taking us longer than usual to process".

Hey! Doing well thanks, and you? They don't have to do anything really. There are no guarantees given to applicants about processing times. It's a best effort thing really. Some people have received PR from around that time, but some people have received PR in only 2 months, so again, it's all quite random. No one really knows why certain people get it faster than others, if preference is given to certain applicant types, countries, etc.

Thing is, they can keep inviting people, and just have a long list of apps to process. If they don't mind that, then it's really only frustrating for applicants. The government should be fine. And they can let people in as the economy needs them, once the pandemic subsides. Agreed - patience is key.

For one thing, the mandate letters do make these guys accountable - 400K landed immigrants target can’t be ignored and they will be under pressure to deliver it. Secondly, immigration directly contributes to a non negligible part of Canada’s GDP. Each day they delay immigrant landings is a day less of wealth creation in the country.

So they certainly won’t sit back and relax, and will be actively trying to put measures in place to fix the situation.

You’ve got a point on the economic impact. But you should also note, the unemployment situation will also be a major counterbalance for any such decision. That may also cause them to slow down the pace.
