Approved permanent resident applicants with expired and expiring COPR and permanent resident visa who are outside Canada
You’re exempt from the travel restrictions, but can’t travel to Canada unless your documents are re-issued, if

  • we approved your permanent resident application on or before March 18, 2020, and
  • we issued you a confirmation of permanent resident document that is expired or about to expire
We’ll contact you (if we haven’t already) to ask you if you’re able to travel to Canada now, to live and settle here. Once we approve you to come to Canada, we’ll issue you the documents you need to travel.

To avoid delays, we ask that you don’t contact us via our Web form or through the processing office email. If you already contacted us before December 23, 2020, we’ll look into your request.
If your supporting documents have expired
If any of the below documents have expired, we may need you to give us new ones

  • medical exams
  • police certificates and
  • passports
If you need to update these documents, we’ll tell you when we contact you.

If you’re planning on coming temporarily and leaving again, for example, to look for a place to live, you can’t do that right now unless you meet a different travel exemption. Also:

  • when you arrive, you must have an acceptable plan to quarantine for 14 days in Canada, including how you will get to the place you’re staying
  • all family members included in the application should travel to Canada at the same time, if possible
  • you should have a confirmed travel plan, or you must be willing to book and confirm travel plans as soon as approved

That's been my understanding of the rules :(
I've been prepared to move since October when our COPRs were issued. They expire February 18th.
I guess it's a case of waiting for travel restrictions to ease before applying for an extension.

Did you try contacting your visa office?

Yes but I've only received standard responses outlining the current travel restrictions.

They have silently changed this section on their website. Even with expiring COPR we can't travel. Any thoughts?

For some reason IRCC are avoiding the subject of COPR holders post March 18. We don't even get a mention on their website.
I expect by the time they get their act together and lift restrictions for us it will be towards the end of the year.
Right now we don't matter to them.

That's very unfortunate. When COPRs expire, it'll be hard to extend them. I hope they come up with something by March 2021...

Guys, I know my question may be stupid, but I am truly confused looking at all the travel restrictions information and exemptions on their website. I need someone to give me straight answer, because a while back while reading on their website, I thought they lift the restrictions for people with valid copr, and now I am confused coming here to the forum.

My question is; Are people with COPR issued post 18 March still NOT allowed to travel to Canada? (mine is issued on 1 November 2020) And the more important question is, does it make a difference if the person wants to travel for soft landing or permanently, or both are banned?

My COPR expires on 21 March 2021.. I will REALLY appreciate your help guys so that I can at least confidently raise a webform telling them that due to travel restrictions, I can't travel and need to get my COPR extended.
