Hello :
We are planning to Land end of jan on my closed WP, as per my employment offer we will be eligible for insurance from day 1, but I assume due to 15 days quarantine, employment start date can be only after two weeks of mandatory quarantine is that correct ?

even we do only remote work ?

If so, i believe i need travel medical insurance atleast for 15 to 20 days to be safer ? Any suggestion for travel insurance ? I checked blue cross site, i get quote around 150$ for family of 3 with coverage upto 50 K is that ok ?

50k coverage is nothing, I would recommend taking 100k at least per person. Here is a link where you can enter all the details and it will show you different options :

While your work might give you benefits from day one you won't have provincial insurance until you do their registration procedures, what employers usually provide is benefits on top of the government provided insurance they dont normally provide insurance as such. This may vary by province/employer.

Registering for insurance might require an in person visit to Gov offices so you cant do that until after quarantine and also it might require various documents from your employer for example here in Toronto they refuse print outs or emails, the employer has to send you the docs by regular mail if you cant go to the office.

There might also be a waiting period before provincial insurance kicks in, it was 30 days in Ontario but has been waived due to covid.

Thanks, so what would be the recommended period to take the travel medical insurance 30 days or 60 or 90 ? I will be working from Quebec province.

Congrats on your upcoming move. Yeah, it's likely that your employment start date will be after the mandatory quarantine period, even if you're working remotely. Getting travel medical insurance for those initial 15 to 20 days sounds like a smart move. As for suggestions, I've always gone with Sagicor for my travel insurance. They've got great coverage and take care of everything.
