Hello, I’m in a relationship now, however, we are not common law partners as we live in different cities. I also think we might get married after I’ve received PR. I want to know if it will be possible to sponsor my now boyfriend as my husband after I’ve received PR. Do I need to declare him now? If I do, what do I declare him as? I want to be able to sponsor him when I get PR.

You don't need to declare him now - once you get your PR and when married, you can sponsor him as your husband from Canada.

Thanks for your reply. I guess I’m bothered because CIC says you can’t sponsor someone if you don’t declare them. I guess it doesn’t apply to this situation.

You would only declare him if you either have achieved common-law status by having lived together for a minimum of 12 months consecutively, or are married. As your boyfriend only, he doesn't qualify to be seen as your immediate family just yet.
