No I wasn't. I was about 30 days short and had no choice but to travel for work. I was honest when entering through the land border and fidn't get reported. I guess I got a nice officer.
I couldn't find any information that COPR can be used as a valid proof for entry. I could locate this link with the valid other documents https://www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/travel-voyage/td-dv-eng.html

It good to know that you have successfully traveled using COPR. But I wonder was it because of a good officer at the border or is it a law that one can use COPR as a mechanism in lieu of PR (if PR card is expired) when traveling in a private vehicle.

I also called IRCC before doing this...they are the ones who suggested I do this.

I have an important question for which I couldn’t find any clear answer in neither websites/forums nor cic website. I submitted my application recently for PR renewal. My current PR card is valid until April 19th. I need to go back to my country due to an urgent issue. My plan is to return to Canada before my current PR card is expired(April 19th). However, given that CIC wants us to destroy our old PR card immediately after we receive our renewed PR card, if my new card is ready to be mailed or even pick up, can I use my old valid PR card to return to Canada? Will my old valid card be invalid automatically immediately after the new one is issued ? Isn’t it illegal to use my old valid card while a new one is issued and ready to be mailed(or ready for pick up), considering the fact that I’m not allowed to have two valid PR cards at the same time? I appreciate your help in advance. I’m really worried and can’t make my final decision right now. On the other side, my trip to my country is really urgent. However, I couldn’t find it reasonable enough to include it in my application and put my application in an urgent process.

When did you apply for the PR Card renewal? What is the status of your application? Did you submit your application in Urgent Processing?

First of all, I’m really sorry if my replies are long. I’m trying to explain my situation as clearly as I can.

No I didn’t submit it in urgent processing, because I couldn’t find my reasons reasonable enough to submit it in urgent processing. In addition, I couldn’t provide some documents to prove my urgent situation.

I submitted my application about two weeks ago. I’m pretty sure I would get my new card 3-4 months later(not before that I assume), and my old pr card is valid until April. I’m planning to come back to Canada before April.

The only thing that makes me worried is that what if my new card is issued and ready to be mailed when I want to use my old valid PR card to come back to Canada? I’m worried because my friend told me when your new card is issued, it’s neither possible nor legal to use your old pr card even if it’s still valid and the old one would be unusable and out of system automatically. Can u confirm it? On the other hand, another friend of mine told me that there is no problem for using your old pr card, because it’s still valid, and the worst case scenario is that you get in the plane and get to Canada border in the airport, and even if they question you, you can simply explain it.

Honestly, I couldn’t find an answer for my question in the social media. It seems nobody has such experience.

May be fill out the webform to explaining you situation. Or else you can reapply for PR card and this time going for urgent processing (as you said in the previous post that you have to travel for something urgent). The travel should be more than 3 weeks after you apply. I think that would be best bet. Technically you can board the flights etc when you are coming back and can explain your situation at the POE but to me that would be too risky as you are saying that you will be back in April and the card will also expire in April.

The regular processing as of today will be approx 120 days. Urgent processing should be very fast.

Thank you so much for your kindness and quick reply.
So, in your opinion, even if my new card is issued and ready to be mailed or already mailed, I can still use my old valid PR card? Because I’m %100 sure I will be back more than 20 days before my old card is gonna be expired, and the risk that my old card is expired when I want to come back to Canada is almost zero. My only concern is that when I want to check in in the airport in my country, they say “Although your card is still valid in terms of date, it is not valid due to being renewed and a new card is already issued”.

I am not sure. But I would suggest you to reapply under urgent processing. Or talk to IRCC.

Unfortunately, I don’t have any proof to use in my application package. In their website, they specifically ask for a proof, like a doctor note or job note to put our application under urgent processing, and I do not have such proof. Unless they take it easy and a ticket and an explanation letter would be enough, that I highly doubt it.

Yeah, it has to be a genuine and urgent event to be qualified for urgent processing. One thing you can do is withdraw your application and once you come back just reapply.

Here is my timeline for PR Card renewal:
1. We received your application for a permanent resident card on July 21, 2020.
2. Decision made on November 9, 2020
3. We mailed your PR card to you. Your card can take up to six weeks to arrive.

Today ECAS shows the following on our applications (2 adults, 1 child):

Permanent Resident Card
  1. We received your application for a permanent resident card on August 25, 2020.
  2. We sent you correspondence acknowledging receipt of your application(s) on November 4, 2020.
  3. We started processing your application on November 4, 2020.
What is kind of interesting is that my daughter appears as "Decision Made", while my wife's and mine show as "In Process", but the information upon clicking the link is identical.
I have the same timeline. Any update on what the decision was and if the card was already mailed?
