Hi,

I am a single working mother(software professional) aged 37 with 2 kids aged 12 and 7 year old. My husband passed away in a tragedy. I am planning to migrate to Canada along with my kids, but bit skeptical as i don't know anyone there. Below are some of my queries:
1. What is the average cost for kids school in Canada and the day care.
2. How do i select the province which is not much costly.
3. what extra documents i need, as i will be applying as a single mother.

Plz help with these queries so that i can take some decision. Also, if anyone can provide me any useful suggestions, would be grateful.
Thank you.

1. Public school is free. University and college are not free.
2. You'll want to research the various provinces based on opportunities available for your occupation. It isn't always the right choice to pick the cheapest province. You want to pick the province where you will be able to find work in your profession.
3. You may need to submit proof that your husband is deceased.

As a SW professional you could qualify for the OINP (Ontario Express entry) as part of their on demand occupations. Otherwise, there is always the federal Express entry program which you could try for. These are points based program and you have to take language proficiency tests and get your degrees evaluated.

As a general rule, big cities like Toronto and Vancouver are more expensive, but have more opportunities.

Read through the forums and the CIC website for the prerequisites. Good luck!

Thank you for responding. I have the death certificate as proof, then i suppose i don't have to submit any separate custody documents for the kids?

I think that's all you need. There shouldn't be any custody papers required since your husband is deceased.

Ontario would be good bet, like others have mentioned, all major metro cities, specially their downtown area's like Vancouver, Toronto, Calgary or Edmonton etc will be expensive so you should do some research beforehand.

jobbank.gc.ca is a very handy website that you can use to help you look for jobs, which provinces offer what salary etc

craigslist, kijiji, zillow, mls.ca, etc can help you get an idea of how much accommodations cost and how much buying a house will cost, down the road.

Given your age, education background and work experience, i don't think it'll be too difficult to get a PR.

Good luck and all the best.
