I was thinking, after processing the documents in Canada, it's not upto the applicant which visa office they want to forward their application, but upto the discretion of the main visa office in Canada. I saw a video on youtube, the applicant's outland sponsorship application was processed only within Canada, and it was a quick process. If I remember correctly, less than 5 mos. The applicant was from the Philippines.

You are correct, many apps are never transferred to a local VO, those that don't are processed in Mississauga and as you say the process is usually faster. They are transferred if IRCC needs the background check, security or eligibility to be looked into further. Some could also be transferred if Mississauga is too busy. Sometimes it seems to be luck of the draw. Looking at the tracking sheets it seems that 40-50% of apps are transferred whether that is intentional I don't know.

Hi! For background:
  • Husband has a TRV
  • File moved to Manila VO
  • Last update is medical passed (Feb 26, 2020)
  • Husband is employed in PH and is currently working from home
We're planning that he'll come here to Canada on TRV and still work for his company in PH. My questions are:
If he needs to do an interview, does he need to do it in Manila?
If he gets a passport request, is it supposed to be sent to Manila?
Do we need to update his mailing address?

Unfortunately right now he can't come to Canada. PH Immigration will not let any citizen leave the country on a TRV going anywhere. That restriction was put in place mid march, 10 days ago they lifted that restriction then a couple days ago they re-instated it. If he needs an interview it would be in MNL even if he was here, no way around that. If he gets here after the restriction is lifted then you would notify IRCC via web form of the new address. If he is here then his passport would be submitted here not in MNL.

Ohhh, didn't check PH immigration. Just thought that it would be fine since Canada's allowing immediate family members. Thanks for your response!

Yea, Philippine government is making it hard for their own citizens by imposing ridiculous travel restrictions.

They're open but still with limited staff
So I am guessing they are still processing immigration cases?
Our file is almost same timeline yours...medical passed back in February just before the lockdown and nothing since then.
