Hello everyone,

I'm the sponsor and my wife is principal applicant, I helped her to apply for PR through spousal inland program in April. According to the timeline of others, I'm afraid this would be a long waiting game.

She is currently on a visiting permit, she does not have OHIP, we recently just found out she is pregnant.

We are going to keep the baby for sure, so does anyone know:

1. at what stage she would be eligible for OHIP?

2. How much does it cost $$ in total to have a baby if we are paying all by ourselves, if she is not eligible for OHIP in the next 10 months?

3. Is there any information on how I could find a good & suitable hospital? I know we need to go to the clinic first to get an official test result.

4. Is there any insurance we can buy to cover complication during child birth?

Thank you!
Alex

One additional question:

SInce we have not received AOR yet, should we report to CIC in regard to her pregnancy?

so she would be eligible for ohip if she receives the work permit, but can also show that she has a full time job for at least 6 months. otherwise she will be eligible for ohip once the PR application is approved in principle

Thank you. In that case, she will need to wait for the approval in principle since she hasn't been working.

I doubt she will be approved in principal within ten months given what;s happening right now, there seems just no progress on the CIC side for spousal applications.

We will probably need to pay for everything ourselves, and need to look into private insurance that offer coverage on complications.

May be very tough to both get a job and show that she will work for over 6 months when she is already pregnant with covid. Assume she will not have ohip before delivery

In terms of insurance there is apparently one insurance plan that covers emergencies in the 1st and 2nd trimester. Most other policies must be purchased before a pregnancy.

Your OB has priviledges at a certain hospital so you would have to arrange payment with that hospital. Many hospitals want some form of partial prepayment although payment plans seem to be allowed in many cases. A vaginal delivery is around 6-10k depending on many things and c-section is 15-20k depending on many variables. Of course you still need to pay for prenatal care and any tests.

Thank you for the information.

We should have no issue with paying the delivery and prenatal care out of own pocket.

You mentioned there is one insurance plan that covers emergencies in the 1st and 2nd trimester, could you please let us know the insurance company name?

I also know there are some other international insurance providers which offer coverage on C-section and emergencies to a certain limit, the premium is very high though.
