Thanks everyone for your responses.

I am completely aware that I should have given up my Indian passport already, but as you know, things got shutdown (still are) and I couldn't get an OCI here, even though I had my Canadian passport back in February. That leaves me no choice but to travel on Indian passport. I am planning to use it for both ways.

My only question is whether it is at all possible to get a visa or Exit permit from FRRO when I am in India? I am also curious if I should need visa or exit permit? I would love to surrender my passport there since it is much cheaper as compared to what I have to pay in France.

Hi
I think its a bad idea,
Apply for an E-Visa, travel on Canadian Passport and come back to france and then apply for OCI, with all things slowed down, you may be stuck in INDIA and even face consequences for acquiring another nationality and not follow the rules.

Without thinking too much about ifs and buts thats the best option. And probably the safest one.

Hope this helps.

But i think that the team in India issues e-visas, not the consulates abroad. You can very well try, nothing to loose. did you already apply and got notified on visa delay?

Apart from this, can you still travel as travel restriction is still there, isnt it?

As you as you click on that link, you see advisory that says no visas are being issued.
Restrictions are still there, but Indian citizens and OCI are being allowed to travel under ongoing mission.
I didn't apply for visa since advisory clearly says it wont be issued. If I still apply just to check, I risk being logged in their system with my details so now if try to travel on Indian passport, they might deny boarding the plane in France itself. See my dilemma?

Its not that I enjoy taking risks like this, I would have very well gotten by OCI by now but things went out of control and still are.

Hello everyone,

I am currently living in France, and hoping to travel to India over summer, around 1st week of July. I became Canadian citizen in Feb 2020, so my 3 months grace period is over now. I wanted to obtain my OCI card but everything got shut down and couldn't apply for one. Now I need to travel to India and I still got Indian passport. Currently, no Indian visas are being issued, so I wont be able to get the visa on my Canadian passport. My questions-:

1) is it safe to travel to India on Indian passport, and actually return to France on Canadian one? The reason I wanna do this is that there's a penalty for travelling on Indian passport after grace period and it is on per trip basis. If I have to pay, I will have to do it for only 1 trip

2) Is it actually possible to surrender my Indian passport while I am in India and apply for OCI there? If so, what would be my status there as Canadian citizen since I would not have an Indian passport, visa or OCI?

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you!
Can't you get a visa on Canadian passport?
