Applied for a visitor record

Hi everyone!
I'm a permanent resident of canada and my wife is here in canada with me by a multiple entry visitor visa which is valid till 2022. For some reasons right now i'm unable to become sponsor for her. She came to canada on december 2019 and it was planned for her to go out of canada on april 2020( officer at the border didn't mention any date under entry stamp) but due to covid-19 and border issues related to it we decided to apply for a visitor record (visa extension) in april 2020 and right now we are waiting for a decision. My question is if for any reason they decide to reject the request, what will happen next? Will she be able to come back to canada with the same visa which she is holding right now? We want to apply for sponsorship in 2021 will be a problem with that too?

If they refuse the app, she can try applying for Restoration or leave Canada.

Yes, she could use her current TRV to return. However, she would be advised to re-establish ties in her own country for many months before trying to return.

It wouldn't be an issue for a sponsorship app.
