Ah good question. So when I landed, Trudeau still hadn't closed everything down(15th March). At the border they asked me to go to Service Canada the next day, (they said no need for quarantine if no symptoms) and get the SIN number done. But on my way to service Canada I stopped at the bank to get an account. While I was at the bank, Trudeau spoke and closed everything down (16th March). So fortunately I got a bank account!
But yes, it will be a problem now.Unfortunately, it must be a Canadian address. I and gave my Canadian address for my bank account. I got my statements from the bank and submitted that as address proof. But I had to go to the bank for the address part. As I landed a day before the lockdown, I could still go to the bank and get an account.Hi
Thank u so much for the reply. I checked the IRCC site for document requirement for applying SIN online since all the service centers are closed and they have asked these three:
primary doc - PR card or COPR letter
Secondary doc - Passport
Address proof - any letter like bill(insurance /electricity) or university correspondence or govt mail addressed to our name and address.

So I am confused with the address proof part ..should I give my USA address as proof or give a letter with my friends name and address in Canada.
I know we can start the application of SIN only after we receive PR card and though we will be returning back to USA after that two weeks of isolation and we might be receiving the PR card later through post from our friend I would like to have a clarity on this address part for SIN
And health card can be applied when we move permanently right ?

I got a Canada visa stamped passport ending 17th July. I took my H1B visa date on 26th June BUT somehow they canceled all appointments. The US-Canada entry is restricted until the end of June. Can you please suggest me what to do in this situation? Even I will go to Canada, without H1B visa stamping, I can not come back to the US. Please give me your input. Thank you.

I have just confirmed from the Service Agent of ServiceCanada for applying SIN. She recommended 2 options. One by Online and another by registered mail.
Option 1 :- Registered Mail :-
She said if you don’t have address proof then you can send the documents by registered mail and it will take 20 days to process the application but in that case we need to send Passport and COPR in original. You don’t require to send address proof in this mode.
Option 2:- Online Mode :-
In this most of us have doubt about proof of address. I confirmed from her that if we have Rent Agreement which is easy to made, then that’s perfect to be as a proof of address. This mode is more faster than the other one and more convenient.
So I’m going for the online mode by getting a rent agreement (a single page document) which is easy to acquire.
India has started domestic flights.Just keeping my fingers crossed that they start international too...
Hi i see IRCC is now allowing for extension of COPR under COVID situation. I wanted to hear your thoughts on trying to softland now vs extension. Will there be any hurdles if we go the extension route? share your ideas and current scenario please. Did anyone have an expired COPR and heard any timeline on extension?
