Change citizenship on PR

Hi everyone, I am a Canadian citizen living abroad and my wife has a PR which is up for renewal in April 2021. I know that she already qualifies to renew as we are living together (Canadian spouse outside Canada) more than 720 days abroad and have proof of that.

When she obtained her PR, she was only a SYRIAN national, but in January 2020 she became a TURKISH national.

Since we have the renewal coming up, are we able to shift her PR status to state she is Turkish instead of Syrian?

Thank you.

She can try but as far as I know, she can't change it. It doesn't matter for travel purposes.

Note that she has to be in Canada to apply for a new PR card.

Thanks for your reply.

The reason I want to change the citizenship is because renewing a Syrian passport is a huge hassle and very expensive (US$800 without bribes).

So let's say she is travelling to Canada and normally at check-in departures, you present your passport and PR card, and same thing once you arrive in Canada.

Is she able to present her PR card (that says Syrian) and her Turkish passport in both scenarios? This would save us the mess and expense of renewing her Syrian passport.

As I said, the citizenship listed on the PR card doesn't matter for travel purposes. Many people have multiple citizenships and travel on their various passports. She can use whatever passport she wants.

Another thing that might complicate travel, her Syrian passport has her first and last name before marriage, while the Turkish passport has her first and last name as her first name, and my last name as her last name.

so if her first and last name was Wendy Miller, and my last name was Smith, her PR card says Wendy Miller, but her Turkish passport says Wendy Miller Smith.

Would that be an issue?

That's up to airlines. It should be fine as long as she has her marriage certificate.

How long did you spend in Canada after getting together after getting PR? Why did you move To Turkey? Being outside Canada with her Canadian spouse doesn’t guarantee her PR status in some cases.
