Work permit for international student

Hi all,
I am an international student (undergraduate). Given my major, I am not eligible for our school's CO-OP program.
a tech company indicated they are willing to sponsor my work permit so that I can do a 12 months internship with them.
Since one cannot have work permit and study permit simultaneously, my study permit will automatically expire. Is this correct?

Another question:
i still have one year of study after the internship. Am I suppose to get a new study permit, or extend the expired one?

Are you planning on taking a 12 month break in your studies to complete the internship?

Also, is your employer aware they will need to obtain an approved LMIA in order for you to qualify for the work permit? This is a 4-6 month process and I expect it will be quite difficult to be approved right now.

Yes, I am planning to take a 12 months break for the internship. The employer said they are willing to obtain an approved LMIA for me, and they also mentioned that this can be difficult given the current situation. In the worst scenario, I will instead work part-time from September to April, so no work permit needed.

Yes - LMIAs tend to be very difficult to obtain. However your employer can cerainly try.

In your worst case scenario, how would you work part-time from September to April? If you aren't studying full time and take a leave of absence in the middle of your program, you are not allowed to work at all.

My study permit indicated that I may work up to 20 hours per week, so I will be studying full-time and doing internship at the same time.
