I was not asked about POF, but someone who landed after me was asked about it, and asked to show her documents. It's always something you have to be prepared for.

Do you have at least the minimum balance required?

I don't think it will be a major issue because this situation has been difficult, but it all depends on the border agent.

I am in a similar situation. I quit my job and can not travel due to travel restrictions, which is why I might have to use the money shown in my POF.

is it necessary to have the exact amount during landing that was shown during the EE application or will the minimum amount (approx $13,000) for one person be sufficient?

Technically yes, you should have those funds available when you land as proof of funds. So it will be the minimum balance required for your application, so if you're a family of X number of people, you will need to have that minimum balance.

To be honest, now you're probably more likely to be asked about POF because of the current situation and the fact most people will need to rely on their funds for settlement at the moment, given businesses are closing and the job market is contracting due to the pandemic.

At the same time, they could be more understanding about you not having the exact figure given they know the hardships people are going through at the moment.

It can go either way. I'd say be on the safe side though and do your best to have at least the minimum balance required.

Thanks for replying.

Well, I showed approx. $16,000 CAD during my application. I used about $2,500 to buy plane tickets. I still have more than the minimum amount required.

Was it a mistake buying tickets with that money? I am so scared. I did not know you need to have the exact amount declared during your application, and that they check this when you land.

Is there no way you can save up or have a relative transfer you the funds to meet the 16k threshold?

I would try to regain the balance before landing, you're not that far away.

Hi dear, you still have time, no worry, you can reassess scenarios by July

Do I have to do this even though the minimum amount required for one person is $12,960? I have $13,500 currently.

As long as you have more than minimum needed for family size, you should be alright. But do note, with the current situation if it takes longer to find a job. The money won't last a long time, considering high rent and cost of living.

A lot of it also depend on where you choose to stay. Please also make sure you have a medical coverage from the Day 1. Healthcare expenses without insurance(depending on province waiting period) can be quite a lot more than 13K.

If you're landing with your family, then yes they will want you to have the balance related to the number of people in your application.

In the same way when you apply, your poof of funds threshold is based on the number of dependents in your application, when you land you're supposed to have those funds readily available for your use to help you settle.

If let's say you're a family of 4, you wouldn't be able to show the minimum balance for just one person in your application, you wouldn't be able to show the balance for only one person when you land as well.

The point of the settlement funds is you have those funds when you land, and the amount required is based on the number of people in your family.

This is all going by the book, in practice whether they will be willing to be lenient is up to the border agent when you land, if they even ask you about it. But this is a distinct possibility nowadays, someone landed at a land border recently and was also asked about proof of funds as well. Most people landing nowadays are getting asked about it.

It's topical to say the least.

thanks for your advice. Yes, at the moment I do have more than the amount required amount for one person. I was worried because I showed more than the amount I have right now when I applied.

Apologies if I could not convey my doubts clearly.
I understand that the threshold is calculated on number of applicants. I am single and in my case, since it’s only me, the threshold is $12,960. I showed more than this during my application ($16,000).

Right now I have $13,500, which is more than the minimum for one person ($12,960).

You mentioned earlier that I should probably get a relative and bring up my balance to $16,000 (same as declared during EE application).

I am still unclear whether

1. Having the minimum amount, as stated by IRCC, for one person during landing is ok
2. Do I have to present proof of exactly how much I showed during EE application?

If the ruling is as mentioned in (2), then I would have to make up the balance, as I’m $2,500 short of that amount.

Now i got you, you should have told me you were single lol, i thought the minimum requirement for your application was 16,000.

Yeah, you should be fine of course, you meet the minimum requirement.

In case of Quebec immigration the amount of money PRs need for settling is much lower than that. e.g. 5kCAD for 2 people family.
