COPR and coronavirus

Hi Guys,I got my visa stamping done on 16th March and the CIC account shows approved status dated 17th March.As per the IRCC updates,anyone whose permanent residency is approved before 16th march can travel.I am doubtful if i am allowed to travel now or not.Can any one suggest.

Actually I was referring to the below update,Not sure which one is correct.

On March 20, 2020, the Government of Canada provided an update on travel restrictions put in place to stem the spread of COVID-19. Foreign nationals who have committed to working, studying or making their home in Canada will be permitted to enter Canada by air or land. They will be exempt from the air travel and border restrictions and will be allowed to enter Canada.

Temporary foreign workers, as well as international students who have a valid study permit or who were approved for a study permit before March 18, 2020, and foreign nationals who were approved for permanent residence before March 16, 2020, but who hadn’t yet travelled to Canada, will be exempt from these restrictions.

MY COPR expires on 5th May and I am from India, will not be able to travel till 14th April due to travel restrictions imposed by Indian Government. Need guidance whether i should raise web form and inform IRCC about the same now or should i do it after 14th April depending upon the situation

I am seeing the messages saying extensions are automatic. I am hopeful the whole pandemic will simmer by April. My COPR expires by May the 9th. I am positive I will land in Canada before then. I will suggest you hold on a little longer till say mid April before anything. Like they said they have a lot on their plates and few hands. Just hold on.

I have my CoPR expiring on 27th April. Even when these new exemptions I cannot travel as India has restricted all international flights until 14th April. Once these are lifted, we can possibly travel, but given the circumstances of COVID spreading exponentially in US, I dont think I would want to travel and risk contracting this during my transit. Canada is a new place for me and no-one there to take care if, something were to happen during transit. I hope IRCC extends the CoPR in these circumstances for people who dont want to take the risk of traveling at this time.
I had raised a WebForm on 23rd March. Have not got a reply yet. I am fearing that for people who got CoPR before 16th March, they will not provide any exemptions and the CoPR will expire.

My COPR expires on 20th of May, however I raised WebForm on 18th of March to inform IRCC about my travel plan which was scheduled for 22nd of March and received below response from IRCC yesterday(which seems to be general):

Appointment at a local IRCC office

· All in-person permanent resident landing appointments at the local IRCC offices have been cancelled until April 13, 2020.

· Local offices are reduced to critical services, therefore, no appointments can be scheduled at this time.

Hi same here.....they will provide exemption. It is v clearly written that people may inform if they can't travel.it is unsafe and impossible for newcomers to self isolate in a new country with a family...So don't worry

With a lockdown till 14 April and uncertainty after that and reduced flights nobody can possibly fly.transit flights are unsafe and plus there are other restrictions

My COPR Expires on 23rd April. I already quit my job so I am planning to go. I have not booked ticket yet will do it soon. I am from India.

I am in the same boat. My CoPR expires on 16th April. It's a very tough call. When are you planning to travel and which flight?

In case of soft landing - what if I return home immidiately after landing is cleared? It doesn't make sense to me to extend my stay in Canada only for 14 days self-isolation, but on the other hand I don't want to mess with Canadian authorities

Hi same here.....they will provide exemption. It is v clearly written that people may inform if they can't travel.it is unsafe and impossible for newcomers to self isolate in a new country with a family...So don't worry

In the passport request letter, it was clearly stated that the validity of your visa has been established and as such cannot be extended under any circumstances. So i think they wld have to cancel and re-issue copr, i dont see them issuing a blanket extension for those affected.

Agreed...And they shudnt issue a blanket extension...but they should certainly consider this an extraordinary case and not penalise us.

I concur with you.

• Expired COPR and PRV: If the applicant informs IRCC via the web form that they were unable to travel after the expiration of their COPR and PRV, or if they were unable to travel prior to expiration, officers are to re-open the application, and it should be brought forward for review in 90 days.

Re-opened applications
Approved applications can be re-opened in GCMS by cancelling the COPR and PRV and removing the final decision.
