Hi,

I am in a position to move to Canada from the UK to work for a company who will sponsor a visa. I guess it's a 'IEC' closed work permit where I can only work for them kind of thing.

Right now I have a small amount of income coming in on an online marketplace where I can create and sell assets. It is not a big source of income, but it brings in about $125 a month, and it could go up a bit... I can run this shop from anywhere, but I need to tax it. It's like a worldwide market that's run from the USA, but developers and hobbyist from all around the world can buy and sell on it.

It may fall under the lines of a 'hobby income' as it is not run in an office, it's not super serious, I don't make a livable amount of money out of it and I don't get profits from the people that use the assets in their businesses.

My question is this... if I take the job in Canada, can I still earn other income online this way and have it deposited into a Canadian bank account? Do I need to stop what I'm doing? Could I keep it going and have it taxed and deposited into my UK bank and left alone there, or bring it over to Canada from there with tax exempt?

Am I allowed to do small income on the side whilst working in Canada on a visa until I get a permanent residence?

I'm happy to do my fulltime job in Canada, but I'm curious about longterm goals, that could one day yeild profit, so this could be things like creating artwork or books or more online assets.

Is anybody out there doing this and making it work :)?

Best!

Mike

It’s unclear what kind of work permit you will be on but it is a closed work permit you can only work at that employer.

Ok thanks, but I read somewhere that you can do some kind of work if it's for people outside of canada on a closed work permit?
