Does anyone know what's the process to apply for a passport and what should I do with my old passport (country of origin's passport)?

I have received the invitation for Oath ceremony, in Mississauga.
Kindly update as follows:
Oath Letter date: 28th January 2020
Oath Ceremony date: 10th February 2020.

  1. Hi Everyone here’s my info, Please update : We received your application for Canadian citizenship (grant of citizenship) on January 24, 2019.
  2. We sent you correspondence acknowledging receipt of your application(s), and a study book called Discover Canada on March 15, 2019.
  3. We started processing your application on April 30, 2019.
  4. We sent you a notice on December 23, 2019 to appear and write the citizenship test on January 9, 2020 at 9:30 AM. The notice you will receive by mail will be your official confirmation of your appointment. If you have not received this notice prior to the date of your scheduled appointment, please contact us.
  5. Decision Made on January 10, 2020
  6. The CIC officer advised that the oath will take approximately 3-4 months.

Hi All,

Passed the test yesterday with 20/20 at Mississauga . Status changed to Decision made on 24th. Officer said dont be surprised if you get oath letter soon :) They are expediting the applications.

Depends on the original passport. Some like Indian and I think Chinese those countries don't allow dual citizenship so at least Indian you have three months to surrender it or they fine you (assuming they can somehow catch you I assume or if you try to enter country etc). For many other countries you can just keep dual Citizenship and may even be required to keep your passport as some countries (including Canada) require Citizens to enter under passport of that country.

Just remember that for countries with entry and exit immigration (most of Europe (not UK), Australia, NZ, most (all?) of Africa/South America etc...) you must enter and leave on the SAME passport. Or you can have major issues.

Well they claim it'll be sent by email. As per the Scarborough thread (and this may be location specific) at least three of us now were told it was sent or to be sent my email and then it arrived via Canada Post. Just ECAS once a week and don't panic if it says sent and doesn't arrive. ECAS for me also said it was sent two days before it updated then took a week to arrive.
