Hi I'm new and here,

I'm also super nervous and I hope I'm in the right forum (mods a I apologise in advance).

After 2 years I've finally come to the decision that I want to move to Canada.

I'm a IT professional with just under 20 years experience and I've spent a large part of the year up skilling with some of the latest technologies. I also have experience of blue chip and and start up companies.

I'm wondering if anyone knows of any job fairs/ recruitment consultants I can contact that are willing to sponsor a UK citizen. I've been looking in UK but can't find anything.

thanks in advance.

You should assume it won't be possible to find a job ahead of immigrating to Canada. The vast majority of employers simply aren't willing to go through the process of hiring a foreign worker or making a job offer. To much paper work, very long processing times, and too expensive with no guarantee of approval.

If you want to immigrate, focus on qualifying and applying to immigrate first - forget about looking for a job. Once you are in Canada and are a permanent resident, finding a job will be significantly easier. Start by researching the Express Entry immigration program - this is a points based program and people are selected out of the pool based on the number of points they have. Right now you need around 460-470 points to be chosen.

How old are you? With 20 years experience you may be over 40 which will make immigrating much harder. You said you spent the past year ups killing. Have you not been employed for the past year? Unfortunately most employers do get concerned when they see large periods of unemployment. If you do qualify for PR or have skills that are in demand you can contact an IT recruiter in Canada.
