How long does it take to return my passport? #TRV APPLICATION

Hello there, I am an international student and have extended my study permit and temporary resident visa for the first time.
I got a passport request message from CIC on Nov 22, and I sent my passport through Canada Post Xpresspost on Nov 24 (I wasn't not told there would be a strike and was given a two-day-max delivery promise by the stuff. So well that was when the disaster started.)
I had booked a flight back to my country on Dec 6 for an urgent event, and I thought there should be enough time if all the things work normal.
Unfortunately, My mail was held for weeks and finally delivered to CIC mail box on Dec 7, after several times of useless calling and asking. My application status turned approved on Dec 13, so now I am waiting for the activation of the return tracker.
I wonder how long will it typically take for CIC to release my passport? Or how much time it takes from status approved to tracker activated?

The timelines for my study permit and TRV are as follows:
Application for study permit (extension) inside Canada
- Applied on September 13
- Application approved : November 05
- Document received by mail: November 10

Application for TRV inside Canada
- Applied on November 15
- Passport request : November 22
- Passport sent on November 24 (via Xpresspost)
- Passport delivered December 7 (to CIC Ottawa)
- Account CIC updated December 13
- Return tracking number activated: NOT YET
- Passport received at home: NOT YET

I will keep on updating in case if it helps anyone. Canada Post is not reliable at all and it ruins the end of 2018. I missed my last chance to see a family member of mine, and I don't even know if I can go back this Christmas. I am so sad and stressful for waiting this long.:(
I feel happy for those who have their documents back, and hopefully we can get ours soon.

This is exactly just like my case. Approximately same timeline and I'm still waiting too. Good luck.
The only difference is that I used UPS for a returned prepaid envelope

Hello @Krystal L ,
Don't worry, I'm sure you will get your passport back VERY soon (most probably this week).
My passport got delivered on December 7 and my application was approved on December 13 as well. However, my return tracker is not activated yet. Based on what other people have posted on this website, the return tracker should get activated sometime this week. Please let me know if you get any update. I will do the same.

Hello @mo25 ,
I checked the return tracker again, and in the delivery progress section it shows "Delivery may be delayed due to labour disruption on Dec 15 and Dec 16, and there is no expected delivery date. I am kind of confused, whether it means the return tracker is activated but the passport is not delivering yet? I am contacting Canada Post and hope we can all get our passports back soon!

Hello @Krystal L I had the same thing showing up yesterday (delivery may be delayed due to labour disruption). However, my tracker got activated today and it says item processed. I just checked my cic account and I got the approval on December 12th (although I got the CIC email on the 13th). So your tracker should definitely get activated in a day or two :) Let me know when it does!

I submitted my passport on May 29th to CIC via Canada Xpresspost for my permanent residency Visa and COPR..Canada post could not find my package..so between May 29th and June 3rd, I was having panic attack..the finally found it and delivered it on June 4th...No update from CIC then. How long can CIC keep your passports?
