Linked to GC key on Oct 8
No updates....

I just saw that August Inland applicants have started receiving their OWPs...so fingers crossed maybe we’ll have some good news by the end of the month or early November

Hello everyone,
I was wondering if someone could give me some advice regarding my sponsorship application. I have applied for an OPEN WORK PERMIT along with my spousal sponsorship in Canada. I got an email from CIC confirming that the application has been received on MAY 3, 2019. I also got a medical request from CIC and the medical result has been received and it has been over 5 MONTHS but I haven't heard anything back from the OPEN WORK PERMIT. I changed my status from STUDY PERMIT to VISITOR RECORD and it just expired 21 days ago. I'm so confused at this moment cause Idk should I have to wait until I get my OWP or I have to extend my stay as visitor. Also, we're also planning on travel outside Canada next year. Since my visa is valid until 2022, am I still able to get through the Canada border without getting any trouble? Is there any case that someone get refused on their OWP before??

hey there! Just want to understand, has your visitor record expired? And if so, were you able to apply for an extension of your visitor record before it expired?

I heard nothing from IRCC about the OWP so I went searching for the application on GCKey.

Here’s how I ‘found’ my OWP application - on GCKey, I clicked on add/link an application to this account ->
Category - temporary residence
Sub-category - work permit and extension

Then I used different combinations to search for my application. It took a little while, but I found my application in the end. Hope this helps!

I don’t think you can extend a visitor record/visa/permit if it’s expired, but I could be wrong.

I understand that one of the conditions for the OWP is that the applicant must be in status (ie have a valid visa or should have applied for a renewal or extension of their visa)...so that you’re in status when OWP is granted.

If IRCC seems you to be out of status, they may not issue you the OWP but this won’t affect your PR application.

If you can extend or renew your visitor record, I suggest you do that. Otherwise, just wait (I know it’s hard to!). Your PR will be approved soon if all is in order

Let me try if I can get my visitor record extended cause we're planning on travelling outside Canada on this Christmas.
I do appreciate your comments tho!!! I should have a valid status to get in Canada even though my visa is still valid right?

Glad I could help. If you have a valid visa, yes you can travel but if you’re out of status, you may not be admitted back into Canada.

Additionally, I must point out that the OWP isn’t a travel visa. So if you have the OWP, you will still need a visa to re-enter Canada (unless of course if you’re from a visa-exempt country).

My background check has started...but I didn’t get a request. My GCkey was simply updated to show it’s begun.
