Hello everybody,

I've got less than a week before my ITA expires and really hoping somebody can help.

I am looking to claim foreign work experience for some self-employed work I did a few years ago. Most of that has been fairly straightforward but I have a concern from 2016.

I made an independent feature film that had a cinema run of which I received a small amount of income that was from splitting the box office sales with the cinema (it is less than $1000). I lodged a tax return for that financial year that shows the income I made but the business overall made a loss of around $4000 (various costs of film post-production etc).

Will a copy of my tax return and a LOE be enough for this work experience to be counted in my application?
How will I attribute an appropriate number of working hours to this job? (I would have spent in excess of 500 hours on it). I was not employed by the cinema per se, so am unsure how to present this situation to get the work experience I need.

Thank you in advance for any help, will be extremely appreciated.

See the section "Proof of Work Experience" for how to document self-employment experience.

Just like any other job, you have to describe your dates of employment and hours worked per week to estimate the amount of time you can claim.

It sounds like you may have trouble documenting it. If you don´t absolutely need to include if for points, (e.g. to bump from one to two years etc), then I would advise skipping it.

Thanks for your reply. I think I have sufficient documentation - invoices, sales & ticketing reports, filed tax returns and bank statements showing the money I was paid.

I suppose my only concern was that the amount of pay I received is disproportionately small to the amount of hours I worked. Should this alone be a concern in your opinion? Thank you for your help.
