I have received a provincial nomination giving my total score over 1000 so I am sure will receive an ITA in the next draw. I have a postgraduate work permit (completed a phd in a canadian institution) and working in Canada now and want to apply for PR. I was diagnosed with HBV 4yrs ago in Canada. It is a condition that I was unaware of- the doctor says it's from my childhood. I have never been on any medication since the virus isn't active.
1. Will this ruin my chances for a PR. What are my chances? Has anyone experienced this?
2. I have all my documents ready but I am worried I might be refused based on my condition. What has been the track record of applicants with this condition?

1. No, it won't ruin your chances and many people here have experienced this.
2. Most of the people pass the medicals, even people with active hbv on treatment

You cannot be deemed medically inadmissible if the cost of your treatment does not exceed the threshold ($19,812 per year) . In your case, the cost is very minimal (just regular check-ups).
So, declare it during your medicals and you will be fine. The PP will request for additional tests like liver function test etc.

Good luck

Thanks so much for your response. It is very reassuring and makes me feel better. I qualify for both the Federal Skilled Worker Program and the Canadian Experience Class. Even though you are saying my condition won't ruin my chances, which of these programs is safer for me to apply through? Thank you.

Hello, both programs are safe as the medicals will be the same. But you should go through the Canadian Experience Class because the processing is usually faster.

Hi, congrads for you! I am a HBV carrier as well. now I am going to take my medical test. My situation is my virus load is very hight but my liver function well and the specialist does not recommend for medication. Do you think if I will pass the medical exam? Should I tell PP that I am a HBV carrier?

Yes, disclose your condition. It won't ruin your chances. I can totally understand how you feel because I went through the same thing a few months ago and as you can see from my previous posts, I was very worried as you are. Be rest assured, everything will be fine. A high HBV viral load is not enough grounds to deny you. There are many factors as explained in previous responses to me. Go ahead with your test and remain positive!

Remember there is no where that says, if you are an HBV carrier, you will not pass the medical. Based on my own experience, I can tell you that you would be fine. Stop worrying. Everything will be fine. My brother, I shared my experience here for people like you who are worried to have some hope!

100% sure you will be fine, my friend went through it, he is on treatment in Canada and has passed the medical exam. All you have to do is ask for your recent notes from the doctor (viral load test, blood work, ASTL test...) to show that you are completely normal. When you do the upfornt medical, DO DISCLOSE your conditions, depends on the doctor they might request you to do further test or let you pass. YOU WILL BE FINE, dont worry.
