Expired PR card

I just noticed my PR card expired last year but will want to apply for citizenship this month of July 2019. Is it legal and acceptable to apply using my expired PR card or do i have to renew it before applying?

You don't need valid PR CARD to apply for citizenship. So you can apply for citizenship even if your PR CARD has expired. PR card is for travelling and does not affect your permanent resident status when it expires.
