Hello,

Can anyone give me an insight in regards to 5 years eligibility period? What is the meaning of this?

I used the calculator and I am eligible to apply. However, I am not sure if do I have to be in Canada for 5 years? I've been here for 4 years. I landed in 2015 and became a resident in 2017. I can go ahead and apply right now right?

Thanks

you normally are able to apply for citizenship after being in Canada for 1,095 days after PR.

Oh, I thought the days I spent during my temporary resident status is also eligible for citizenship, and only half days were included in the calculations.

Those days are also taken into consideration like you said, up to 365 days.
And you're not obliged to spend at least 5 years in Canada! When you have accumulated enough days, you can apply. You are eligible to do so today, and the calculator says so itself :)
Good luck!

Just to clarify you can claim one half day for every full day physically present in Canada as a temp resident whether a visitor, student or work permit holder to a maximum 365 days credit as long as those days are within the 5 year window preceding the application date. The minimum days as a PR needs to be 730 days so when combined with the max temp resident days that gives you the 1095 days required.

As already mentioned there is no requirement to wait for 5 years , an application can be submitted as soon as reach 1095 days although generally recommended to have additional days in case any dispute about physical presence days which is key as all days must be physical presence in Canada.
