I know a journalist, who is schedule to be in Canada July 12-15. She came to Canada during the 1970s, went to school, worked, had her SIN, medical card etc. She then left Canada in 1978/79...She also holds a valid US residency. She is aware she needs an ETA to travel to Canada and applied but was shocked when she was told she needs to relinquish her Canadian residency. There are questions to that, a) if she applied she may not have the documentation from that the 1970s, b) she's aware it can take up to 45 days, but she don't have that time as she accompanying a Prime Minister from a particular country, and c) what are her options.
Anyone know the Canadian Immigration Act from 1970 to 1978, regarding residency?
