hello pls help... I just need some info please.
I just got married. And I will be sponsoring my husband I am a canadian citizen I met him 1 year ago and we have been living together. When I met him he was studying he came here in Canada with a student visa he only studied one semester and when he met me he stopped studying because he can no longer afford it and I have been supporting him and myself financially, since he is not allowed to work. I know can I sponsor him But is it going to be a problem that he did not continue studying? His Visa is still valid till May of 2020?

I want to thank all of you in advance for all your advice.

You can certainly sponsor him for PR.

However you should be aware that his study permit is most likely no longer valid. Once he dropped out of school, his study permit was most likely canceled after 90 days and he's most likely in Canada now without status.

This doesn't stop you from sponsoring him for PR. However if you apply inland and include an open work permit (and assuming he is in fact out of status), the open work permit won't be granted within four months - it will take several months longer.

He should have applied to change his status to visitor when he stopped attending school. However that's water under the bridge now. You canot go back in time.

Thank you so much for your detailed information this is very helpful. Also, since let’s say he is out of status is this going to be an issue when applying for the PR ? Is it going to be more complicated? Is there a chance that they will send him back to his country? I’m so scared....

Have a read on this, and don't worry you can sponsor but just need evidence that you can provide for this person during the duration of the application period.
