1) You are right. DD is in the favor of 'The consulate General of India - Toronto' for Toronto applicants.
2) Yes I got that letter even for my minor son. :)
3) When I did this 2 months ago, my spouse and I had separate applications (had to fill two applicantions on OCIservices.gov.in) . I do not know what you mean by Family Application. Did you create an online application yet?
4) Everyone need their own application
5) Yes
6)Yes two copies would be ideal. treat both as separate applications.
7) I would treat each application as seperate
8)Yes

I would recommend you to start filling in the online application for OCI.

(1) For OCI, do you have to submit (online as well as copy) the last held Indian Passport or the one with which you landed? Or both ?

(2) Do you have to submit (online as well as copy) marriage certificate if your marriage was while in India and before getting your PR?

Thanks !!!

Thank you very much @xylene for answering to my bunch of questions and clarifying my doubts:) !!!

Reg- Qn (3)- Family application- What I meant - In some doc and a specimen filled-form on BLS website I read that, after you upload your documents online, you can add your family members like wife and minor children in the same online registration form. But just now, in this forum, I saw another member telling that there was no provision to add another family member's details online and he had to start fresh online application again for his wife. So, I doubt whether this feature exists now.

Reg - Did you create an online application yet?

I started my online application. But I could not go beyond the first page since I could not enter the Canadian Passport details. (I hope I can get my passport today afternoon. The pickup date is Tuesday morning. So I guess it should be ready by Monday evening anyway. I am going to try my luck and see whether it is available today afternoon- only one day in advance- it completes 9 business days today- and generally Canadian offices make things ready in advance.)

I am doing this because I live two hrs away from Brampton and I have to go to Toronto tomorrow for some other work. If I get passport today afternoon, I can complete the online part today and try to submit the package at BLS tomorrow. This can save me another trip to Brampton next week.
So, I am gathering all things as quickly as possible.

Applying for things in our own consulate is more complicated and too much paper work than applying to Canadian applications :)

There is no family application, you need to submit each applicant forms separately, get different OCIXXXXX reference numbers.
Rule of thumb with Indian applications, when in doubt, just provide them with documents. For example the check list says that you do not need to give them marriage certificate, if the passport has spouse names entered.

I gave them the marriage certificate anyway.

Even though you are providing your passport copy with your application, give it again with your spouse's. Same with your spouse application. Treat each application as separate.

To save on commute, they have a pick up and drop option. I had to pay an extra 200$ for three applications for that (they charge for each drop off even though all envelopes come together ).

Hello seniors
I have couple questions if you have answer please reply ; before strat I let you know that on Indian passport I had only given name and my wife had same only give. Name

1. Just recieve mine and wife Canadian passports , Both of us have xxx given names and on surnames they just put our names . As Canadian law allows .
Now we are preparing documents for oci
Do We need to provide affidavit for name change , if yes. Do some body have SAMPLE OF AFFIADVIT FOR NAME CAHNAGE

2 . We are also applying oci for our Canadian born kid , so do we have to get a separate name change affidavits from me and wife for his application too ??
I already filled application for oci for my kid
We have to wire information as Canadian passports names and our names are different from Indian passports .
If some 1 have answers please reply
THANKS

Thanks. I also noted that they have said marriage certificate is not required if spouse name is printed on Indian passport and if your application is not dependent on spousal OCI. Still I am planning to attach it. I prefer to go and submit personally than sending by post because I hope if there is any discrepancy I may be able to fix it then and there itself or at least know it rather than waiting for a few days.

Question about Indian Address: In surrender application, Indian address is asked and I read somewhere to provide Indian address in the Indian Passport. But what about if :
  1. Nobody live in that address now?
  2. Or, the house no or street name changed? If you give the new house no or new street name will BLS accept that or do they ask for proof etc?
Or, to be safe, should I provide everything strictly as per the last Indian passport (since they are not going to send any communication to Indian address anyway)?

If there is an issue with postal application like missing documents or form issues, they would update the status online and send you an email with the required details, which you can send by regular post to the Brampton office

I would recommend to give the same address as in Indian Passport. Any slight change would trigger questions and proofs.

Thanks. I also guessed like that. So, better to give without any change !

Hello seniors
1 . Can some body tell me surnder fee and oci fee. (. I need correct fee).
Because on checklist it’s 289. For oci

I call couple agents they come with different answers (fees ) so I don’t know I am confused
On blade site it’s says. 425 for oci
And 250 for surrender
Plz reply
Thanks

(1) As per the OCI checklist, among the spouse's details to be attached, there is an item:
"Their (spouse) status in Canada "- Does this mean the Canadian Citizenship Certificate of spouse?

(2) Is file size limit for photo and signature - 500 KB and other documents 1000 KB?

Follow instructions from BLS. The amount BLS mentioned would be accurate. Which checklist did you see 289$ for OCI?

1) Yes and I also attached spouse passport copy
2) I do not remember this, but it is mentioned in the pop up before you attempt to upload documents.

  1. When I include copies of wife's documents like passport, COPR etc in my application set, who has to self attest her docs- is it she or me (document owner or applicant)? How did you do?
  2. Marriage certificate is asked among wife's details again. But I guess since it is common for both husband and wife, only one copy should be sufficient, Right?
