Hello everyone

I would like to get some advice. I just received an ITA and as I am gathering the documents I realized that the ECA that I have from IQAS was done for employment. I tthought I could use this for immigration but when I called IQAS they said I have to redo an ECA and select for immigration. The ECA that i have now says it is equivalent to a Canadian degree. However it wasn't done for immigration but for employment. Apparently the ECA has to be Specifically done for immigration so a number can be assigned. IQAS has a long turn around time so I ordered one from WES. However what I want to know. Is it best to decline the offer and wait for the correct ECA then resubmit or accept the offer and submit the wrong ECA along with the right ECA with a LOA. WES processing time is 35 days so I would wait for the correct one since I have 60 days.
What do you guys think?

You need to decline your current ITA and then create a new Express Entry profile and apply once you have received an immigration ECA from a designated evaluating agency like IQAS/ICES/CES/WES. Ideally, your application would be put on hold and an updated document will be requested from you before the 60 days, failing to submit the right document in 60 days would result in a decline of your application and would have to reapply again with the correct documents.

WES processing time is 35 "business" days after they have received, reviewed and "accepted" your documents. WES takes about 5 business days to 35 business days to review and accept your documents, depending upon your institution's country and response time.

In my case, WES took about 35 calendar days to accept my documents and are taking 20 calendar days to evaluate and complete my ECA.

So in total WES took 55 days to do your application? Wow that's long. I thought it was just 35 days. So I was assuming it would arrive in the 60 days

Yes, 55 days in total. Moreover, they send the document on the next working day, so let's say the date shown to you is a Saturday or Sunday or even a Friday, you will receive the document on the next business day, which would be a Monday or Tuesday, so sometimes this adds upto the delay.

35 "business" days from the day your documents are "accepted". However, there is no fixed timeline on when your documents will be accepted.

In many cases, documents were accepted in 5-8 calendar days and in many other cases it took around 1 calendar month. They took 1 whole month and 3 days to accept the documents before they could start with the evaluation.

Acceptance depends on your country and the institution's country as well as the institution.

Also, business days = Monday to Friday. Public holidays such as Labor Day, Canada Day, Boxing Day, Easter Monday and etc.. are not considered business days.

Wow...that is ridiculously long. Urg...ok what I will do is prepare all my docs. If 2 days before my 60 days come up and there is no WES documents in site. I will then decline the offer.
Thanks alot for ur feedback appreciate it.

P.s. my documents are coming from my school in Jamaica. When i called WES friday they said they received all the docs but ntg has been accepted yet. Now I know this will be a decade......thank you tho

You could do that.

Yeah, there is no fixed timeline on when your docs are accepted by WES and WES gives vague answers when asked about acceptance. They can take as less as 7 days or as much as 45 days.

There's one more thing that you can do, and that is to act dumb while filling out the ITA.

On the ECA number, enter a number that is shown on your document by IQAS and submit your ITA with that document's reference number and get an AOR.

When assessing your documents, the officer will ask for you an updated document and will give you 60 days to do that, you can then submit your ECA, let's say after 10-15 days.

you could also possibly be charged for giving false information. ECA for immigration is whats required and the assessing authority directly send the eCA report to IRCC. this will be specified in your ITA i presume

But, it is highly unkiley, because a lot of people genuine applicants make mistakes with their applicant. Also, submitting the wrong document does not imply that the applicant is lying about his educational credential.

Submitting a document meant for employment, mistaken for a ECA, which has some random reference number, and says that person A has "XYZ degreee" equivalent to some Canadian equivalency rather than an ECA certificate, meant for immigration with a random reference that mentions that person A has "XYZ degree" equivalent to some Canadian equivalency is not lying or misrepresentation but dumb. In such cases, you are asked to produce new documents else "decline" ITA but are not charged for misrepresentation.

Ohhhhhh....mmm...this is a good suggestion. I guess the question is do I wait until they request the right ECA or do I send it to them as soon as I get the right one...which would be after my application is submitted. Nevertheless I like ur suggestions. That way I wouldn't decline the offer. Ok I will try my luck!

But you need to make sure that your IQAS certificate has a reference number on it and your documents have been accepted by WES and have a tentative date by which your evaluation should be over.

Understood. Yes I do have a reference number entered for IQAS that's why I didnt realize there was a difference lol
I will contact WES next week to see if my documents are accepted, its been 1 week. I sure hope it doesn't take months just to accept them...urg..

Instead of calling, shoot them an email via their contact form. When you call them, they just give out generic replies and nothing else. Been there, done that.

It took WES 1 month and 4 days to accept my documents and then they gave 20 additional days to complete the evaluation. Overall they took around 55 days.

Good idea. I'll email them and see. Urg.. pay all that money to wait months.... How sad!
Although IQAS was worst took them 4 months
