Hi,

Does anyone know if the previous TRV as a tourist will be canceled due to the issuance of a new TRV as a student?
My TRV as a tourist is valid till 2026 while TRV as a student is valid till 2023.

Thank you very much!

The policy is not to invalidate a previous TRV if you are issued a student TRV, if I recall correctly. However, did you apply for the previous TRV online? You could look online and see if it is still valid.

Unfortunately, I applied on paper for my tourist visa. But if it is canceled, will they mark it on my visa? Because they have not sent my passport back, I just saw my application result online

I'm not confident. I believe they would mark it as cancelled.

usually they will cross the stamp if it is cancelled. So I would say wait for your passport to check.

Kind regards,

The policy is if you have a valid TRV on your passport, such as V-1, IRCC is not REQUIRED to issue you a new TRV based on your study purpose. But if they do issue you a new TRV, they WILL NOT cancel your previous one, since the purpose of these two TRVs are different.

Okay. Since my TRV as a student is valid until 2023/08/31. Technically, can I leave Canada on 2023/08/31 and come back the second day using my TRV as a tourist? Because I have heard of about changing my status from student to a tourist. But I am not really sure what that is?

Provided it's still valid, yes. But why would you need to leave and come back?

You change your status if you want to extend an additional six months on one entry. You could easily do that as well, instead of trying to leave and come back, which runs the risk of a rejection by CBSA.

You can change your status from tourist to student, not the opposite.

And the last day you can stay in Canada doesn't depend on your visa expiration date, it depends on the date when your last course's grade got posted, technically.

Finally, if you leave Canada as an international student and come back to Canada on the second day, you have a great chance of being refused and repatriated.

I am guessing he is talking about that he wants to stay in Canada after graduation. After he loses the legal immigration status as an international student, he has to get out of the country and get in to refresh his legal immigration status as a tourist.

You can apply for a status extension when a study permit expires and you will receive a visitor record. Student is not an immigration status; you are a temporary resident with a study permit.

So yes, you can extend a stay after a study permit and you will be granted a visitor status exemption if approved.

So if I apply for a Post-Graduation work permit, will I be able to leave and enter Canada while the work permit application is pending?
Because my TRV as a student is valid until the end of the summer holiday, and the school supposes to end around April. So it is possible that I want to go back to visit my family or just travel around.
