Hello,

Me and my wife applied to Express Entry - FSW with AOR February 4th and the application is still pending as of now. My wife also applied for a work permit (co-op through the school) in February which would last until March 2020, but that's also currently pending.
Her current student visa and study permit expires on July 31st. We have some planned traveling in mid August (after her visa expires), so the question is if neither the PR nor the Work Permit will be approved by August, will she be able to leave Canada around mid-August and re enter early September using the pending work permit or PR? I imagine she would be able to leave after her visa expired as the decision on work permit isn't taken yet but don't think she would be able to return without a visa until a decision is taken on either PR or work permit but wanted to confirm with you guys.

Thanks in advance,
A*

She would not be allowed to return without a valid visa. Implied status ends once you leave Canada.

Thanks, but she would be able to stay in Canada after her visa and study permit expired (31st of July) until a decision on either PR or WP would be taken right?

Correct. That is implied status - from the work permit. She would not be permitted to work.
Thanks again, last question is there a time limit on this? Like what if the applications take 6months or more?

No. Implied status lasts until the work permit application is decided.
Thank you for being so responsive. I have one more doubt: would she be possibly considered as abandoning her PR application if she leaves Canada while PR / WP are still pending and wait for the decision outside Canada?
I'm the primary applicant (in US) and she is the secondary (in Canada), I'm worried based on: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/helpcentre/answer.asp?qnum=248&top=28
