Spousal sponsorship opw question

I have been searching for the answers, but it would be great if someone could clarify things for me.

I currently hold an open work permit which is expiring soon.

I and my Canadian wife are going to submit a sponsorship application, as well as the open work permit application (IMM 5710)

Now, I have some confusions.

1. If I apply for it and they receive the package before the expiry date of my current work permit, do I get an implied status? So I can continue to work as I am?

2. Is it correct that I select "Apply for a work permit for the first time with a new employer" in my case? I am not sure because I currently hold a work permit.
