Hello. My husband will, God willing, recieve ppr within the next month or so. His passport doesn't expire until Feb 2020. Is that okay send our current passport in for the ppr? We're planning on renewing it in Canada.
Thanks for your reply ! So do we only need to land I Canada before February then? August will be the month 6 before expiration. Will they still stamp the passport after Aug and just advise us to land by February, or will they refuse to stamp it if there's not 6 months validityYes, though the passport needs to be valid for at least six months when you send it in.
Your immigrant visa will only be valid till the expiry date of the passport so keep that in mind for your landing plans.
The passport request letter usually states that you have to send a passport that's valid for at least six months. If you get the PPR in Sep, for example, you'll probably need to send them a new passport. Thanks for your reply ! So do we only need to land I Canada before February then? Thank you so much! Also do you know if there is a time limit to submit your passport after getting ppr؟ for example if we decide to just renew his passport next month, and then we got ppr. Wed have to wait until we get it back and the passport renewal can take 6 to 8 weeks. The passport request letter usually states that you have to send a passport that's valid for at least six months. If you know you'll be getting the PPR in the next month or two it should be fine.
And yes, on your current passport you will have to land before Feb 2020. The visa will only be valid till the expiry of the passport.
The COPR/visa will be valid one year from the date of his medical last year, not until Feb 2020.Thanks for your reply ! So do we only need to land I Canada before February then? Passport expiry date or one year from the date of the medical, whichever is first.Yes, though the passport needs to be valid for at least six months when you send it in.

Thank you so much for your time. I do have 2 last questions.Yes, you have to submit your passport within 30 days. If you are in the process of renewing your passport you can contact them via email and ask them to delay it.
It's usually not a big deal as long as you inform them and get them to update their records.
Thank you for that reminder! Med expiry in October! The COPR/visa will be valid one year from the date of his medical last year, not until Feb 2020.
We were guven 8 days to submit our passportYes, you have to submit your passport within 30 days. If you are in the process of renewing your passport you can contact them via email and ask them to delay it.

8? Wow! That's kind of short notice. We're thinking now to just renew it now and get it over with, but as I said ppr could potentially come in at any day now. I'm concerned we apply to renew next week and maybe ppr comes while it is away i was told to inform cic if Im going to renew so they dint send ppr, but I'm terrified of them postponeing this. Our application has pasted 2 years and I dint want to give them a reason to hold backWe were guven 8 days to submit our passport
8 Days? That seems very low. Are you sure it wasn't just you reading the letter late? Can you tell us more?We were guven 8 days to submit our passport
Im quite positive i know how to read. We got ppr letter on and dated march 5 2017 and it had to be received by march 13,20178 Days? That seems very low. Are you sure it wasn't just you reading the letter late? Can you tell us more?
No offense intended - I obviously wasn’t questioning your ability to read. I meant maybe they sent the email and you only saw it a few weeks after they sent it. Apologies if it sounded rude, tone is hard to convey on a text message.Im quite positive i know how to read. We got ppr letter on and dated march 5 2017 and it had to be received by march 13,2017
Right but it should be noted that this is not alwaysthe caseNo offense intended - I obviously wasn’t questioning your ability to read. I meant maybe they sent the email and you only saw it a few weeks after they sent it. Apologies if it sounded rude, tone is hard to convey on a text message.
An 8-day response is certainly not very common. The vast majority of cases have a 30-day response time.
