Hey guys. What should I ask when calling CIC? I asked what’s going on with my application and only thing agent said was “everything looks good, we are still processing your application”....that didn’t help me at all.. please any advice? It’s been 6 months since my aor on tuesday.
I asked the following questions and the agent was able to answer all of them:
  1. Has eligibility, criminality, and security been passed?
    • For stages that are passed, ask what the most recent passed stage is, and the most recent pass date
    • For stages still being reviewed, ask the date the review started for each one
    • For stages not started yet, the agent won't know when it will start, so there is no need to ask for dates.
  2. Are there any notes on the file that indicate a possible problem, or why the application is delayed?
  3. Is there anything I need to do?
  4. Is there any update on the expected completion date?
  5. What Visa Office is the application being processed at? The agent I was speaking to didn't understand this question, so I clarified "Which city is the application being processed at?
You may also want to apologise for calling again, because they record the date of each time you call them, and sometimes don't like repeat calls. If they give you trouble for this at the start of the call, you can say you have some specific questions you did not ask the last time. You could also maybe assure them you are not trying to speed up the application process, just get some details on the status. I'm sure you know this, but the more polite you are, the more help you are likely to get.

For reference, the answers I got were:
  1. All stages are passed, and the most recent stage was Security, which was passed on March 18
  2. There are no notes indicating a problem or a reason for delay
  3. You have provided all of the requested documents, and there is nothing else you need to do
  4. There is no update to the expected completion date
  5. The Visa Office is Edmonton

Hi guys... thanks to the almighthy it is PPR for me today.
Checked my account before 7 AM and there was nothing.. opened cic portal and saw a ghost update.. got extremely excited and came to the office feeling good.. as soon as I opened my inbox again I instantly saw the golden email.. it was received at 7:02 AM.. :D

My timeline is below:

AoR: 28th Oct
Stream: FSW-outland (Pakistan)
MEP: 27th November
Biometrics Completed: 28th November
Radio silence after that
Ghost update/PPR: 12th April (dated 11th April)

I had ordered gcms which I received on 3rd April.. they were generated on 6th March and as per them I had only cleared R10, Medical and Criminality. Eligibility and Security had not even started.
I called cic a couple of days back and got through to a very supportive agent. He told me that my eligibility was Recommend Pass but my Security check still didn't start. He also said that he's hopeful my process will be completed within the 6 month timeline but if it exceeds then 3rd September is the date at which he can ask for an update from the Case Officer, before that all I can do is wait.
But at last I received the email today and the wait is finally over. I pray that all those who are waiting will get to hear the good news very soon and wish them the best of luck for the new journey ahead!

Thank you very much for such a detailed answer. I appreciate your help. Can you please explain to me what does those stages mean? Eligibility, criminality and security? In my application I can see “we are processing your background check”. Are these stages part of backround check? Can you say if you’ve passed all stages, you are close to PR?
I’m thinking about calling them again in about 2 weeks which should be fair - 6 months and 2 weeks since AOR.
