I met my boyfriend while he was here on tourist visa from Europe. He extended his 6 month stay to 9 months and left before his legal status expired.
This was a few months ago...he wants to return and this time will apply for extension so we can get legal common law.
When he returns to Canada is it better if he have return ticket ?
He has also applied for work visa but this has not come through .
Is it ok to say he is visiting
his girlfriend ? Any advice appreciated

Yes - he should have a return ticket. I assume he has applied for a work permit through the IEC program?

Note that you cannot have a long separation during the 1 year to become common law. You want to keep your separation to three weeks or less. If your separation is greater than three weeks, you will need to start counting the 1 year required for common law from scratch when he returns.

Yes he has applied for work visa.
Should he buy the return for the 6 months generally permitted with a visitor visa .
Yes unfortunately we will have to start again from zero.
