I am a PR in Canada however I am currently finishing my medical degree in the Philippines . I have stayed in Canada for almost a year since i took a break from school and gave birth there. My card is about to expire this coming June 2019 and I am preparing for the Philippine physician exam this coming September. I was wondering if I am legible to apply to the permanent travel document, so I can renew my PR card in Canada. My son is also with staying here in the Philippines and I am planning to bring him back once I am done with my board exams.

As long as you meet the residency requirement and have lived in Canada for at least 2 out of the last 5 years, you certainly qualify for a Travel Document.

Are you aware that your chances of practicing medicine in Canada are extremely low.

Thanks, i am not sure i have stayed for 2 years though, because of i had to go back to school. But will there be great chances of getting the travel document since I have a son who is Canadian?

Having a Canadian citizen child would not improve your chances.

As above having a Canadian child will not improve your chances of successfully applying for a travel document or renewing your PR card.

Meeting the residency obligation or not is an individual responsibility and being out of Canada for education is considered a personal choice so generally will have no consideration as far as residency obligation is concerned.

In applying for a travel document this will highlight whether you have met the 2 out of 5 years residency obligation and if not then worst case it could be refused leading to the possibility of your PR status being revoked.

Often the suggestion on here where residency is in doubt is to avoid applying and travel back via the US land border hoping to gain entry without being reported, then staying put for 2 plus years to reset the obligation.

As others have said, it's irrelevant that your son is Canadian. For the travel document to be approved, you need to meet the residency requirement. The fact you were attending school outside of Canada is not accepted as a reason for failing to meet the residency requirement.
