There's no need to leave - you can simply extend your visitor status. You have to submit the status extension by the day your current 6 months expires.

OWP application also gives you implied status, but depending on when you're sending it, it's probably best to play it safe and just extend your visitor status.
Thanks for the quick reply.

On the other hand, I just checked the visitor extention processig days and show "96 days for online, 110 days for paper" submission. By the time finalizing my visitor extention application If I apply today, my 6 month stay will finish and probably it will be 7 or 8 month. It wont be a problem, right?

Hi
This is the link to apply inside Canada.

https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/application/application-forms-guides/application-change-conditions-extend-your-stay-canada-worker.html

Remember to pay 2 fees:
  • $100 open permit holder fee and
  • $155 work permit fee
Here is the general help link:
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/helpcentre/questions-answers-by-topic.asp?st=4.2
look in: the question: how do I apply for an open work permit?
since you are applying to the PR with the sponsorship, you don't need a job offer. It will be an open permit, that let you work in any company.
Best regards and good look.

I would like to ask one critical question about the form IMM 5710- Question 7 - Current Country or territory of residence.

First box (country or territory) is already filled as "Canada" by itself.
Second box : status should be visitor or whatelse applicable?
And the time boxes? from.. "my enrty time" filled but "to" :?? I dont know or assume duration of the time. Should I fill my expiring date of multiple entry visa?

Thank you in advance.

Applying for a visitor status extension gives you implied status until they make a decision (I stand to be corrected by more senior forum members). My partner has had 2 extensions (been here since September 2017). The first one was processed within a month, but the second took about three months. We applied September 9, 2018 as his status ended on September 29, 2018. He received the notice of extension just prior to Christmas. The extension is valid for 6 months from the date that his other status expired, not the date that they processed the extension.

Whenever we've submitted a request for extension, we've included letters from both of us saying that he will be supported by a combination of his savings and my savings, and that if the extension is refused, he will leave the country. We've also noted that we recognize that he can't work in the country as a visitor, and we included bank statements to show that we have funds available. We addressed how expenses (transportation, housing, etc) will be covered. Both times we were also upfront about the fact that we were applying for PR - the first time, we said we wanted to be able to fulfill the 1 year cohabitation requirement for common-law, and the second time we said that we were just getting our documents ready but needed the extension so as to have time to send them.

Thanks a lot for the reply. I greatly appreciate. This will be my first extension and my legally married spouse is going to my sponsor and I have savings as well. It is good to know I can do in that way. Still I have a ticket to go back my home country but I dont want to risk my resident permit application and OWP. If you have more tips or exprience to share I will be glad. Thanks again.

For sure! We were really nervous when we applied the first time, because we had a lot riding on it. At that time, he also had a return ticket, which we mentioned. We also mentioned his travel history to try to prove that he wasn't a risk. Basically, we tried to address any issue that they might have had, and I closed my letter with something like "If you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to contact me." My understanding is that they just want to know that you're not extending your stay to do something illegal (i.e. work or study), and that you've thought about your expenses and how you'll cover them. We both PDFed our bank statements, and I think I included a PDF of an employment confirmation letter. That was easy, because my employer auto-generates it in my employee account.

How many days or months do they extend the stay in each of application if it is possible?

Can I ask a question about the form for OWP please? I guess we are kind of similar situations. I am filling the form of IMM 5710-Open work permit one.

Question 7 - Current Country or territory of residence.

Second box : status should be visitor or whatelse applicable?

Do you have an idea about that? I know I asked tones of things today.

Thank you in advance.

Would anyone else be interested in having a separate October Inland Spousal Sponsorship tracking page? I see the the September group has one and its really useful for estimating where we are at as October applicants. You can see what theirs looks like by clicking here.

Here I created a new tab for the October Inlands, copied and pasted the format from the September Inlands' for you. Fill in the rest and it's all yours...

That depends on your current visa. If you have a tourist, worker or student visa.
We put worker because my fiance has a working holiday visa.
