Hi everyone!

My Spouse is currently holding a Closed Work Permit in Ontario, whereas I'm the dependent currently holding an Open Work Permit... I am 6 month pregnant now, and currently I'm at my home country. I am planning to go back to ontario by january. May I know if there will be problem? My Open work permit and TRV will expire on 2020. I'm a bit worried, I want to go back to ontario and have our baby born there.... We do both have a Ontario Health Card issued to us this year 2018. Can someone who have been through this or know what do in our case share their experience, It would be highly appreciated. :)

Thanks...

Hi

Do you meet the residency requirements for OHIP?

What @canuck_in_uk was asking is whether you meet the residency requirements to qualify to use OHIP. When did you arrive in Ontario and how long have you been away?

Who qualifies
To qualify for OHIP, you must meet all of the minimum qualifications listed below plus at least one of the additional requirements.

To meet the minimum qualifications you must:

  • be physically in Ontario for 153 days in any 12‑month period
  • be physically in Ontario for at least 153 days of the first 183 days immediately after you began living in the province
  • make Ontario your primary home
You must also meet at least one of the following additional requirements. You:

  • are a Canadian citizen
  • are an Indigenous person (registered under the federal Indian Act)
  • are a permanent resident (formerly called a “landed immigrant”)
  • have applied for permanent residence, and Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada has confirmed that:
    • you meet the eligibility requirements to apply
    • you have not yet been denied
  • are in Ontario on a valid work permit and are working full-time in Ontario, for an Ontario employer, for at least six months
    • your spouse and any dependents also qualify if you do
  • are in Ontario on a valid work permit under the federal Live-in Caregiver Program
  • are a convention refugee or other protected person (as defined by Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada)
  • have a Temporary Resident Permit (only certain case types, e.g. 86 through 95)
  • are a clergy member who can legally stay in Canada and is ministering full time in Ontario for at least six months
    • your spouse and any dependents also qualify if you do

Hi!

Thank you! this is very informative! I really appreciate it... :)

I've been away for almost 2 months now., and have been living in ontario since January this year 2018 only. I just went back in my home country to celebrate christmass and new year. Do you think I'll be able to come back in canada? given that I'm 6 months pregnant.... will they allow me? I met all the requirement based on the post you shared. I'm just a bit worried....

If you meet the requirements and have legal status in Canada you should be fine.
