Have you thought about entering via land crossing from the US on your return trip to Canada? It's a worst case scenario but it's better than not being allowed to board your plane back because of an expired PR card.
Well my plan was to go there and apply for a PRTD and waited it out as I have family there but now my problem is that I can’t even travel because I have a 2 hour wait in Mexico to catch my flight to Guatemala and I’m being told that because I don’t have the PR card that I can’t even travel to the destination.

Call the Canadian embassy in your home/destination country and explain your situation. Ask them if it's possible for them to advise the airline that it's ok for you to fly back to Canada with only an expired PR card. Getting a Canadian embassy to do this is extremely rare but it has worked at least once before and was documented on this website. If you look at an earlier post, a PR from Japan was in a similar situation and tried to board their flight from Tokyo to Canada with an expired PR card and nothing else. The airline employee at the airport initially denied her boarding but then called the Canadian embassy in Tokyo, who, in turn, negotiated with CIC to let this person board the flight to Canada with nothing more than their expired PR card.

It probably won't work. I've never read of it working elsewhere and I wasn't even aware it was technically possible until I read it on here, but if someone else has done it in the past, there is at least a chance you could do the same thing.

Couldn’t you applied for urgent processing now that they return your application with a copy of your ticket and explaining how your application was returned you never know unless you try.

So this will work? I mean if I book a trip in January from Seattle they will let me enter to Vancouver by car even if my PR expired in November? I also have the nexus, I don’t know if it changes anything

IF you are a PR and it's just your card that is expired, and IF you have not formally had your PR status revoked by the government, then yes, you will be able to re-enter Canada via land border crossing with your expired PR card. You'll need to explain the situation and expect some questioning, but if you are still a legitimate PR and it's just that your card is expired, they have to let you back in. This only works for land crossings from the U.S.; flying is different and airlines typically will not let you fly back to Canada on an expired PR card.

Hi all,

Just wanted to share my timeline. I just received AOR this morning and when i logged in to check the status it already says "decision made". When I click on the "decision made" link, it says "we started processing your application on November 30". So I'm assuming it's been approved and is waiting to be sent to production?
  1. We received your application for a permanent resident card on October 2, 2018.
  2. We sent you correspondence acknowledging receipt of your application(s) on November 30, 2018.
  3. We started processing your application on November 30, 2018.
Fingers crossed everything goes smoothly now that Canada Post as been forced to return to work.

Sending prayers for a speedy process to everyone still waiting to get their AOR.

regretfully not yet. 6wks from DM seems to be general threshold. if within this 6wks u don't receive any communication I would advise you to contact ircc to investigate.
I have contacted them on a weekly basis. The agent at call center checked my file and found nothing wrong. The card is in production at the facility in Sydney. Last week another agent sent a note to the production facility and people there acknowledged and working on it. I don't know what else I can do apart from keep waiting.

I sent it via Purolator on October 1st and received the confirmation from Purolator that it was received on October 2nd. I've just received my AOR this morning and they noted that it was received at IRCC on October 2nd also.

Hope this helps?
