Hi all,

Bit of a long story, my partner and her kids are heading to Canada early next year on a teacher exchange program for a year and I'm heading over to give them a hand on a visitor visa as we havent been together long enough for me to be put on her visa.
Theres an option that my Employer in Australia may be able to keep me employed and I can work remotely from Canada which I presumably will need a work permit for although I cannot find any useful info on this, has anyone been through this or know where I can find any info,

Thanks in advance,

Shaun.

How old are you ? Are you an Australian passport holder ? Have you looked at the IEC program ? Does the Australian company have clients in Canada, if not you could do work remotely without a work permit although you would still have a challenge to guarantee being a visitor for a year.

I assume you might hit the 1 year living together mark sometime while in Canada which means that you'd have to file taxes as a married person. Lots of little things to think about.

Hi,
I'm 42 so way out of the IEC category, I'm a permanent resident in Aus and a British citizen, no clients in Canada as all work I'll be doing would be for my Australian company so yes I can work remotely but need to make sure its all above board being able to do that in Canada both for myself and the company I work for.
I would have to get a 6 month visa and then come back to Aus for a month or so and then apply for a second visitor visa if they allow or if I can get a job offer I may be able to go down the work permit route depending on work situations etc

Thanks,
Shaun.

Good point, I'll have to keep that in mind but still investigating my options at present
