Transit to Montreal from Vancouver

Hi everyone. My wife (PA) and I (Sponsor) are going to transit to Montreal from Vancouver.

Will we need to go through immigration in Vancouver or in Montreal?

If we can go through immigration in Montreal, would that be possible, or is it really necessary to do it at the first port of entry.

Remember that Vancouver is just our transit flight to Montreal (the destination) with about 4 hours of layover.

Immigration/PR - family class (she's my wife).

The destination mentioned on the COPR is Montreal.

So since the transit flight is within Canada, you go through immigration at the port of entry (even though our destination is Montreal, the immigration happens in Vancouver since that’s where we first entered Canada). You must check out and check back in for domestic transit flights.

If you have a single through ticket from your home country to Montreal transiting Vancouver it would be normal process to pass through customs and drop luggage at a connections desk so are you saying here you had to check in again in the terminal which would be unusual unless on separate tickets, one for international and one for domestic ?

We flew from Taipei to Vancouver, where we had to go through the arrivals (not connections), customs, claim our baggage from the carousel, immigration, then drop off our baggage again to get onto the domestic flight to Montreal, in that order.

In other words, it doesn’t matter where your destination is, you will go through immigration wherever you land first, as there is no direct connection between international and domestic flights. In order to get onto a domestic flight, you need to have “entered” Canada.

Our entire journey was handled by China Airlines (Taiwan), but the last domestic flight from Vancouver to Montreal was operated by WestJet.

Understand that but the way you worded your other post implied you had to check in again in the terminal at a check in desk when in fact as this post you completed immigration and customs, then dropped off your luggage for the domestic sector. So yes you entered Canada but you did not check in again your luggage from scratch at a terminal check in desk that was the confusion.

It really varies but should not take that long time.
