Hi there, I am having a visit visa valid till 2020 and would like to visit my daughter for an year to support her as she is expecting a child. Is it possible for me to apply for a super visa? Currently I reside in UAE and will be moving to India in 2019 and as such would like to remain in Canada with my daughters for a while. What would be the chances for me and my husband to get a super visa? What kind of documents are required at our end? Can anyone help please? Thank you guys. Madhu Ms.

What is your daughter's immigration status?

I have 2 daughters and both have PR status, while elder one moved to Canada in 2015 and working. Younger one moved in November 2017 and just got job for the past 2 months.

The younger daughter cannot invite you and your husband because she won't be able to prove that she meets the income threshold for super visas.

Your elder daughter can sponsor you and your husband if her income is above the income threshold for the X members in her household + two persons (you and your husband).

It's not advisable to mention about wanting to visit to take care of your daughter and the newborn because this is considered as working illegally/taking away employment from a Canadian

So, you mean to say that we can still apply for Super Visa, inspite of having a visit visa valid for another 2 years till 2020? I had called VFS Global, in Dubai thru whom we need to apply for visas and they mentioned that we can not apply for super visa, as we already have a visit visa?!

We are confused. Can we apply from Canada at this stage?

VFS is wrong.

It is confirmed/possible to apply for a super visa when someone has a valid TRV. If approved, the TRV will be cancelled/replaced by the super visa PG-1 counterfoil.

Here's one recent successful similar case (valid TRV to super visa approval):

No, you cannot apply for super visas when you're in Canada. You must apply to a visa office outside Canada i.e. in a country where you have the strongest ties.

If you arrive on your current TRVs, you can apply to extend your stay (this is not the same as applying for super visas)

Thank you so much for your clarification. Appreciate. Now, may be I will walk into VFS and check with the counter agent. But, still would like to know is there any place I need to mention the reason for my visit for a longer period than 6 months?

Do you suggest that I apply online from Dubai, where I reside for Super Visa?? Please revert.

I strongly recommend you go through this forum for suggestions to prepare your super visa application.

For a super visa, you would need to select 'Temporary Visit: More than 6 months' in the application form. Your daughter would also mention a visit of >6 months (keep your visit to 8-10 months) in the invitation letter + the promissory note, etc.

The purpose of visit could be to spend time together/family reunification for some months + for sightseeing, etc.

Yes, do apply from Dubai. Your visa office will be the Abu Dhabi visa office.

You and your husband must prove your immigration status in the UAE + your strong ties to both the UAE and India

Thank you so much Bryanna, got some confidence now. I am going thru your link already and if any doubts, shall post here. Thanks dear again.

Also would appreciate how long does this Super visa takes to get approval? I intend to travel by November mid week. And if I get the medical insurance from UAE valid in Canada for an year, will that be valid?

It's not possible to say. The IRCC website has estimates for the processing time. Actual processing time can take longer.

Super visa medical insurance must be purchased from a Canadian insurance company

Thanks again Bryanna, you are such a kind soul. Bless you. Shall revert if any query.

Bryanna, while reading your link I got a doubt, I had visited Canada from November 2017 to end of Jan 2018. Am I still eligible to apply for Super Visa and will be able to get it? In VFS the processing times show as 61 days +.

You can apply for a super visa regardless of your previous visit. Approval will depend on a number of factors
