Hi guys, I was working in a project in the year 2012-2013. I mailed my project manager for a reference letter. As far as I know a colleague of mine told me, he won't provide me a letter as he doesn't remember my job duties. I am still in touch with my colleagues. Can I get a letter from 2 of my colleagues, regarding my experience. Do I need to get any other documents from my colleagues to show that the were employed during the same year I was, since they are no longer working at that place. How to I make a strong case to the official?

Reference letter from one colleague is fine. Do mention their contact details and attach their ID card (if they are still employed in that company) or business card.

@mr.preetsingh ....is it ok if i provide their contact details and some proof like their reliving letter to indicated the time they work there? Also do I need to receive a email from the project manager denying my request, so that I can show it as a proof?

My colleagues who are working there are about to resign from that place in the coming month!!!!!

So to summarise, I type a letter and then the colleague signs and attests the letter that as per his/her knowledge and observation I had indeed performed all those duties during that time period. That's it right?

You will need
1) Letter of explanation about your inability to get a letter of reference from your past employer, and provide proof (e.g. the email).

2) Alternative documentation -
Duties & responsibilities - letter(s) from former colleagues/clients
Other employment facts - one or two of the following - contract, wage statements / tax records (if available), relieving letter, etc.,

This is almost exactly what I did too. I spoke to the HR from my company and they said they couldn't issue an updated experience certificate, So i got them to email me confirming my job duties and that I was a Full time employee, attached it with a couple of bank statements showing my salary, my employment contract. combined all of these into one file and uploaded it to my application.

This was a common issue I faced in both of my work experiences. The companies provided me an experience letter only stating my position and the dates I worked with them. So I had to attach manager's email confirming my duties along with their business cards, my job offer letter and bank statements into one file.

Would I still need to explain this in the LOE ?

My employment reference letter is not dated?? Can this be a problem
I can provide the email records of when was the letter sent to me by the hr?? Will it work??

Yes, it can be a problem if it is your current employer (e.g. no end date in your letter). It is best to get a new letter with the date on top. If that is literally impossible, write a letter of explanation and provide alternative proof...

It does have an end date!

So, it is either not your current employer, or term-limited employment... the problem is still, IRCC has no idea when the letter was written, if it was written AFTER you completed the employment (proof of employment) or before (planned, but not yet completed).
