Hi There,

I am in desperate need of some guidance.

I am currently in the process (submitted and received) of applying for my PR via my wife spousal sponsorship.

I came to Canada with a two year open work permit and it is about to expire. When applying for the PR sponsorship we also applied for an extension on my current work visa.

I was offered a new position of work that is closer to home and pays a great deal better and I am unsure if I can change jobs. Or what the steps would be from here.

Any of assistance would be greatly appreciated.

What kind of work permit do you hold? IEC? PGWP? Something else?

I currently hold an IEC Visa

Assuming you applied inland and included an OWP - you can remain in Canada while you wait for the OWP. However you'll have to stop working as soon as your IEC expires (IECs cannot be extended). You'll be able to work again once your OWP is approved. Hopefully the sponsorship application was submitted a few months ago and you are close to the OWP being approved.

Thanks so much for your help, I submitted my application back in March but it was rejected for some missing documents. I resubmitted and it was received 23rd May and in progress since then.

Yes we applied for spousal sponsorship in Canada. I am unfamiliar with the above abbreviations can you please help me out OWP?

OWP = open work permit. Did you use the inland or outland process for sponsorship? If inland, did you include an open work permit application with the package?

It can take up to 4 months after the complete application is received before the OWP is approved (some happen sooner). So possible you may be waiting until late September.

Do you know of anything that I can do about this situation or have any recommendations of what to do in this scenario.
