Hi,

I am interested in applying for the express entry program. However I have a few questions:

1. I have a common-law partner and we are planning on getting married. Should I wait until after wedding before doing the application?

2. The requirement is to do the English test so I need to know if I apply with husband accompanying will he be required to do the test as well?

3. What happens if he is not intellectually capable of doing the test?

4. Should I apply for PR and then sponsor him after?

2. The requirement is to do the English test so I need to know if I apply with husband accompanying will he be required to do the test as well?yes, will give you additional points

3. What happens if he is not intellectually capable of doing the test?

you can, but what I have read in these forums is that it takes a long time

1. You can apply as a common-law partner as well, if you can prove it. But, applying after marriage will be straight forward as you have to submit only your marriage certificate.
2. It is not mandatory for him, if you are the primary applicant. The draw points now are around 440, if you get enough points without his language test, then you surely proceed forward.
3. See the above point.
4. Sponsoring is a tedious process and it takes atleast a year for the process. If you have enough points applying with him, then it is better to do it.

Thanks so much. This has been most helpful.
So just to clarify my next step will be to do the test and then create my profile?
