Previous spouse sponsorship

Hey everyone,
Have a question...hoping someone can help answer it.
So I was previously married and had sponsored my ex 10 years ago. Now I know I am responsible for any money he may have taken as support for 3 years from landing. My question is how would I know if he did take any social assistance without my knowledge?
Would they not have requested it from me or what happens?
I want to know as I recently got remarried and want to sponsor my husband and dont want any surprises.
Please help!

so If I have never gotten anything from anyone in the government I should be ok. I file my taxes every year and they have never even come back with me owing any money.
