Academical Reading, text #1 about Alex the talking parrot (slightly modified version of this text: http://ieltsmaterial.com/ielts-reading-practice-test-66-with-answer).

First section (T/F/NG):
Memory is considered a higher mental ability - T;
At the start of the experiment Alex was afraid of people - F (or NG, not sure, because it was not mentioned in the text that he dominated in his "flock" since the very beginning);
It took researchers some time to show how similar are the mental abilities of humans and animals (maybe different wording, but the same meaning) - T;
The researcher chose the bird by herself - F;
Alex has already new a lot of words when the experiment began - F (or NG?);
The aim of the experiment was to teach Alex human language - F (or maybe this question was in another section, not t/f/ng, then the answer would be - world, as he had to learn about world).

Choose words from the text:
What was too small that other researchers did not believe Alex would be able to talk - brain.

Some other questions:
How many words has Alex learned by now - one hundred;
Which animals are commonly used in language experiments - chimpanzees;
What was the same in two objects shown to Alex - color;
What mistake did Alex correct in younger birds - wrong pronunciation.

Will try to find the two other texts (about smells and literacy in australian rural areas). :)
Thank you

Dear all,
Pls tell me. In 2 days advance was question 3 or 4 in the second part of listening? P)Q.13 or 14?

It said if you don't cancel a couple of days in advance, they will charge you. And it said it's cheaper if you register at block 10?
It was said like this? If yes, in this case, as a couple days is not limited to 2 days but more than 2 up to 5 days. I think block 10 is answer. What do u think?
I need it to get 8.

I also have the same thoughts
"Couple of days" doesn't mean exactly 2 days it means " a few "
But in fact, I can't recall exactly what have been said

If I recall the section about equestrian club correctly, the correct response is 2 days, because it was "at least 2 days", which means "2 or more", and what was said about blocks of 10, was that one CAN pay for the blocks if they prefer so, but that is not necessary.
HTH :)

I think it was within 2 days or 2days without at least. But about block you are right it was not compulsory

Thanks :D hope you get band 9 as well :)
good luck to you.

going to be tough to get 8, my hubby needs 9 or 10 out 10 in section 3. (other section 1 - 9, section 2-8, section 4-8 so total = 25 marks) or he might have to retake the exam, oh well, there is this writing as well!. He will get 8.5 or 9 in reading, speaking is not an problem since we lived there in USA for over 10 years.

I have a question. Is it possible to get some relaxation in marking if exam was really tough like consideration of 34 correct answers for band 8 instead of 35?
Well, as far as spellings are concerned, I'm afraid I've written 'sandwitch' which will be a real disaster.
